#24 Lady Buffs Head to Florida for the FSC Terrace Hotel Classic This Weekend

CANYON, TEXAS –
The #24 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M will take part in the 2015 Florida Southern Terrace Hotel Classic this weekend inside of Jenkins Field House in Lakeland, Florida as they take on Armstrong State, St. Leo, Central Oklahoma and #11 Florida Southern. WT enters the weekend following a 3-1 showing at the BritKare Lady Buff Classic in Canyon.
 
WEST TEXAS A&M
The #24 Lady Buffs enter the FSC Terrace Hotel Classic with an overall record of 3-1 following last weekend's BritKare Lady Buff Classic in Canyon. The young Lady Buffs picked up wins over Dallas Baptist, Colorado State-Pueblo and Adams State before falling to Lubbock Christian in five sets in the tournament's finale. WT was led by senior middle blocker Lexi Davis with 46 kills while junior middle Elisa Bentsen registered 43 kills and 21 total blocks (4 solo, 17 assisted) during her first weekend in a WT uniform.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
The WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 436-63 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 87.5%. The Lady Buffs are no-stranger to starting off the season on a high-note, WT is 31-5 all-time in season opening games including an impressive 27-1 when the Lady Buffs open-up the season at home including a sweep of Dallas Baptist last Friday afternoon.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, the 2014 Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year, is now in his seventh season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 339-51 (.870, 12th year) including a 203-31 (.865) mark in Canyon.

THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
LSC volleyball teams are 30-10 overall this season, the squads are currently 11-4 combined versus Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams and 7-2 against the Heartland Conference, which are the other leagues in the NCAA South Central Region. TSU's Hailey Roberts (Offensive) and Meg Umbrel (Defensive) picked up weekly Lone Star Conference awards while Angelo State's Maggi Jo Keffury was tabbed the league's Setter of the Week announced on Wednesday afternoon by the LSC offices located in Richardson, Texas.
 
ARMSTRONG STATE
The Pirates of Armstrong State enter the weekend following a 1-2 showing at the Pirate Invitational in Savannah, Georgia. ASU topped Brevard while falling to Tusculum and Lincoln Memorial, the Pirates were ranked #25 in the AVCA Preseason Poll before falling out in Monday's release. ASU is led by 8th year head coach Will Condon who has led the Pirates to the NCAA postseason seven times. Emily Wylie leads the way offensively with 52 kills on 122 swings to hit .295 on the season for an average of 4.00 kills per set while Selene Ushela leads the defense with 58 digs to average 4.46 per frame. ASU is hitting .229 as a team with 168 kills and 63 attack errors to go along with 159 assists, 26 service aces, 198 digs and 29 total blocks. Friday morning will mark the first ever meeting between West Texas A&M and Armstrong State.
 
ST. LEO
The Lions enter the weekend with an overall record of 3-1 with wins over Missouri-St. Louis, Bridgeport and then #21 Arkansas-Fort Smith with a loss to now #2 Southwest Minnesota State during the Hampton Invitational hosted by West Florida. The Lions are led by Sam Cibrone who is now in his 11th season at the helm of St. Leo, leading the team to five NCAA Postseason appearances and a Sunshine State Conference Title. The Lions are led on the court by Hope Lemon with 54 kills to average 3.86 per frame while Ashlee Hodgskin guides the offense with 161 assists on the season. The Lady Buffs are 2-0 all-time against the Lions with the last meeting coming during the 2010 Colorado Premiere when WT took the match in four sets.
 
CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
The Bronchos of Central Oklahoma enter the weekend with an overall record of 5-0 with wins over Maryville, Southern Wesleyan, Henderson State, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Oklahoma Baptist. UCO is led by fourth year head coach Edgar Miraku. The Bronchos are led offensively by Barbara Jackson with 65 kills on 165 swings with just 14 errors to hit .309 on the season while Katy Davis guides the offense with 192 assists to average 11.29 per frame. Defensively, UCO is led by Whitney Gifford with 83 digs so far this season while Jordan Spence leads the way in the middle with 17 total blocks. The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against UCO, 36-5 with the last meeting coming in 2010 when WT swept the Bronchos in Edmond.
 
FLORIDA SOUTHERN
The #11 Mocs enter the weekend with an overall record of 4-0 with wins over Bentley, Minnesota-Crookston, New Haven and LIU-Post last weekend. FSC jumped six spots to #11 in this week's AVCA Top-25 Poll announced Monday. The Mocs are led by 15th year head coach Jill Stephens who has led FSC to 10 NCAA Postseason appearances during her time in Lakeland. The Mocs are led offensively by Anna Tovo with 45 kills while Bethany Besancenez has registered 92 assists so far this season. Tovo also leads the team in digs with 29 while Kendall Marotti is a force in the middle with 14 total blocks. WT leads the all-time series against Florida Souther, 9-2 with the last meeting coming in 2014 when FSC topped the Lady Buffs in four sets during the Colorado Premiere.
