Chontiquah White posted her ninth double-double of the season with 25 points and 15 rebounds leading four Lady Buffs in double figures as the No. 6-ranked team the country posted an 81-67 victory at Cameron Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Lady Buffs won their 11
th-straight game and improved to 20-2 on the year and 11-1 in Lone Star Conference play and remained in sole possession of first place in the LSC. Cameron fell to 13-9 and 10-3 in league play.
White went 9 of 19 from the field with a triple and 6 of 8 from the line with a game-high 15 rebounds. Senior
Ariel Robertson added 14 points on 7 of 13 from the field, while junior
Madison McLain was 6 of 11 from the field with one triple and had a game-high eight assists. Senior
Haylee Oliver added 11 points off the bench with three triples.
The Lady Buffs shot 32 of 65 from the field for 49.2 percent and were 6 of 15 from beyond the arc and 11 of 15 from the line. WT out-rebounded Cameron 41-33 for the game. WT had 23 assists with 14 turnovers, one block and four steals. WT scored 42 points in the paint (28) and converted 25 points off 19 CU miscues.
Cameron was led by 18 points from Brandi Leal all on triples as she was 6 of 17 from the field and 6 of 15 from beyond the arc. Jazzmine Robinson added 15 points and six rebounds, while Jade Herl also had 15 points also all on triples. The Aggies shot 43.1 percent for the game on 25 of 58. They were 11 of 25 from beyond the arc and were just 6 of 15 from the line.
Cameron took an early 5-4 lead on a triple from Herl, but the Lady Buffs came back with a bucket from Madison and, after Robinson tied the game at six, White scored her triple for a 9-6 lead as WT never relinquished the lead the rest of the game.
The Lady Buffs built a 40-26 lead with 2:10 left in the first half, but Cameron made a furious rally as it ended the half with an 8-0 run for a 40-36 deficit at the break.
The Aggies came out of the break and tied the game at 44 with an 8-4 start to the half. A bucket from McLain once again gave WT the lead at 46-44 with 15:26 left. The Lady Buffs built the lead out to nine on two occasions during the middle part of the half and led 66-57 on a triple from Oliver with 6:58 left.
Cameron would get as close as eight points two more times with the final coming on a triple from Leal with 2:03 left, cutting the deficit to 73-66, but the Lady Buffs ended the half on a 9-1 run for the 81-67 score.
The Lady Buffs now return home to host Tarleton State Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the First United Bank Center. The Lady Buffs will have their annual Pink Out Night against Tarleton State and all fans are encouraged to wear pink to support breast cancer awareness. WT will wear black and pink uniforms which will be auctioned off following the game. Check back with
