No. 4 Lady Buffs Run Winning Streak to 12 Games with 76-63 Victory on Pink Out Night

CANYON, Texas  –  A game-high 26 points from the reigning Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Chontiquah White, helped guide the No. 4 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs to a 76-63 victory over visiting Tarleton State Wednesday evening.  With the win, WT improved to 21-2 on the year and 12-1 in LSC play as it ran its winning streak to 12 games. 
 
The Lady Buffs had two players in double figures as White went 10 of 12 from the field with two triples and was a perfect 4 of 4 from the line.  Senior Haylee Oliver added 12 points off the bench on 4 of 4 from the field with two triples and two free throws. 
 
WT shot 56.8 percent from the field on 25 of 44.  The Lady Buffs were 9 of 19 from beyond the arc and 17 of 22 from the line.  WT held a slim 32-31 lead in rebounds, but were out-rebounded 15-7 on the offensive end. 
 
TSU was led by 25 points from senior Kathy Thomas as she was 8 of 14 from the field and 6 of 9 from beyond the arc with three free throws.  She was the lone TexAnn in double figures as TSU shot 40 percent for the game on 22 of 55.  TSU was 7 of 17 from beyond the arc and 12 of 20 from the line.
 
The Lady Buffs opened the game with a 15-0 run forcing five TSU miscues and holding the TexAnns to 0 of 6 from the field.  Following the firs bucket from Tarleton State with 13:16 left, senior Jordan Vessels extended the run to 18-2 with a triple inside as WT opened 7 of 10 from the field with four triples, while TSU was 1 of 7.
 
Junior Danielle Logan buried her second triple of the half for a 24-9 lead with just over nine minutes remaining in the half.  Thomas made one of two free throws cutting the WT lead to 24-11 with 8:40 left in the half.  Sophomore Sasha Watson earned the "and one" for a 27-11 lead at the other end.
 
Two free throws from Logan swelled the lead to 31-15 with 6:28 remaining in the half.  The lady Buffs went into a bit of a scoring drought missing last five shots with 3:36 left in the half.  White buried a triple for a 34-17 lead with 2:35 left ending the drought.  White fed senior Haylee Oliver for a 3 for a 37-19 advantage with less than 20 seconds left in the half.  WT held TSU to just 2 of its last nine field goals and three turnovers over the final 2:51 of the half.
 
WT took the 37-19 lead into the half as the Lady Buffs shot 56.5 percent from the field on 13 of 23.  The Lady Buffs drained seven triples (7 of 11) for 63.6 percent and went 4 of 5 from the line.  White led the way with 12 points in the half on 5 of 6 with two triples and five rebounds. 
 
The WT defense stymied TSU for much of the half as the TexAnns had just four points through the first nine minutes and went 2 of 8.  Since, they were 6 of 20 as they shot 8 of 28 for the half for 28.6 percent.  TSU was 1 of 7 from range and 2 of 4 from the line.  WT led 17-16 in rebounding, but TSU held an 8-3 lead in offensive rebounds and led 9-4 in second chance points. 
 
Tarleton State opened the second half with a 7-0 run as WT began the half 0 of 4 from the field with four turnovers.  Thomas buried her second triple cutting the WT lead to 37-29 with 14:44 left.  Senior Ariel Robertson scored inside for a 39-29 lead. After White took a charge, Robertson scored the "and one" for a 41-29 lead with 14 minutes left.
 
Junior Michaela Neuhaus got into the long range act with a three for a 44-31 lead and the eighth triple of the game for the Lady Buffs with 13:23 left.  Following a bucket from the TexAnns, Robertson scored inside once again for a 46-35 lead.  Oliver scored inside pushing the lead back to 15 at 50-35 with 9:41 left as TSU turned it over on its last three possessions.
 
Vessels scored two free throws for a 54-39 lead and Neuhaus hit her second triple for a 57-39 lead as WT outscored TSU 20-10 since the 14:44 mark.  Watson score two free throws for a 63-44 lead with 6:13 left. 
 
Two quick buckets from TSU cut the deficit to 63-48 with 5:47 left as the TexAnns started the full court press to try and get back into the contest with steals and quick buckets.
 
The Lady Buffs head to Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday for a 4p.m. tip and then travel to Texas Woman's on Sunday at 2 p.m.  WT returns home for the regular season finale and Senior Day on Feb. 28 against Eastern New Mexico at 2 p.m. in the First United Bank Center.
