WT won the opener 5-1 and blanked the Eagles 12-0 in a run-rule game in the nightcap. With the wins, the Buffs improved to 5-2 on the year, while OC fell to 1-4.
For the doubleheader, the Buffs' bats came alive once again as the team hit .359 while holding OC to just .156. Senior
Dylan Dyson went 4 for 4 with four runs scored and one RBI, while senior
Ryan March was 4 of 10 with three RBI and two runs scored. Junior
Mason Shiflett went 3 for 7 with two runs scored and four RBI.
WT dominated on the mound, too, as senior
Tyler Gibson won the opener going six innings, allowing four hits, one earned run, two walks and he fanned seven in the 5-1 win improving to 2-0 on the year. Senior
Justin Disbro earned the complete game shutout going seven innings in the shortened nightcap, allowing three hits with one walk and six strikeouts. For the doubleheader, WT fanned 15 and walked just four, while allowing just one earned run and just seven hits.
The Buffs had chances in the first and third innings with runners in scoring position of the opener, but were unable to bring anything across. OC broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth with a two out RBI double to right.
In the sixth, WT plated four runs to take command of the game. Junior
Jace Reese started things off with an infield single. A walk followed as OC made a call to the bullpen as WT chased Dillon Endecott from the game as he earned honorable mention NCBWA All-America honors last season. Junior
Josh Day reached on a fielder's choice, but senior pinch-runner
Heath Davis was called out at home. March reached on an error scoring the tying run. A bases loaded walk followed as OC made a call to the bullpen once again. Shiflett hit a two RBI single for the 4-1 lead.
OC went down in order in the bottom of the sixth as WT scored the fifth run of the game in the top of the seventh with two away as junior
Matt Cole hit a single to center plating Day. In the bottom of the frame, WT senior closer
Sean Michel relieved Gibson as the Eagles drew a walk, but Michel came back with two backwards K's and a fielder's choice ended the game.
WT started the nightcap with a run in the first on a double to left by Shiflett plating junior
Trace Hansen who drew a one out walk. The Buffs blew the game open in the fourth as they plated five runs on five hits, highlighted by a Cole three RBI double to center for a 6-0 lead.
The Buffs added five more runs in the sixth as two Eagle miscues proved costly and added a single run in the seventh also helped out by an error. Disbro retired nine-straight from the fourth through the sixth innings. In the bottom of the seventh, OC got a two out triple to left, but a line out to center ended the game.
The Buffs and Eagles play one nine-inning game tomorrow at 12 p.m., followed by the Buffs playing a neutral site game against NAIA foe Dakota State (0-0) at 3 p.m. Live stats for both games can be found at
