CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes outscore University of Science & Arts 52-23 in the second half as sophomore guard David Chavlovich went off for 29 points as the Buffs topped the Drovers, 93-58 in front of over 400 fans on Tuesday night at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas. The Buffs improve to 3-2 on the season while USAO falls to 4-4 overall.
 
The teams traded misses to start the game before an Eric Golightly Jr. steal and score for the early 2-0 lead, the Drovers knocked down an open jumper before David Chavlocich nailed a three from the corner off of a defensive rebound from Ryan Quaid, the teams traded layups as Jordan Evans finished the fast break opportunity. A USAO block led to a fast break layup of their own before Chavlovich answered with a three from the top of the key, the teams traded misses again before Chavlovich drew a charge on the defensive end of the court as the Buffs took a 10-6 lead into a media timeout with 15:33 left.
 
The Buffs turned the ball over right after the break on an errant pass before the Drovers gave the ball right back out of bounds, USAO registered another block followed by an Evans steal led to a Quaid offensive board and layup to run the lead to 12-6. The Drovers missed on their end of the court followed by a Rylan Gerber long ball from the top of the key, David Tucker answered for the Drovers with a three followed by  a WT miss that led to a USAO transition alley-oop dunk to cut the WT lead to 15-11 heading into a Buffs timeout with 13:09 left. The teams traded misses after the break before the Drovers extended their run with a layup followed by another WT miss headed into the under-12 minute media timeout as the Buffs led 15-13 with 11:46 left.
 
The Drovers nailed a three after the break to take their first lead of the game followed by a pair of turnovers followed by a Tommy Gove three from the corner and a USAO miss and a Chavlovich pull-up jumper to run the WT lead to 20-16. Taran Buie nailed a three from the wing to pull USAO back within a point before Chavlovich continued his hot streak from the field with a three from the corner, Buie scored five straight points for the Drovers before a USAO foul sent the teams into a media timeout with the Drovers leading 24-23 with 7:46 left.
 
Chavlovich hit one-of-two from the free throw line after the break to tie the game at 24 followed by a Chavlovich steal that allowed the sophomore to knock down two more from the charity stripe, the Drovers answered with a layup before a long outlook pass led to a Quaid wide-open transition slam with 6:29 left. Buie nailed a three from the corner followed by a pair of misses before Chavlovich knocked down another three to give WT the 31-29 lead, the teams traded turnovers before Golightly Jr. knocked down a transition long ball from the wing to give WT the 34-29 lead heading into a USAO timeout with 4:39 left. An offensive foul on the Drovers gave WT the ball back as Gove hit two from the line heading into the last media timeout of the half with WT leading 36-29 with 3:53 left.
 
The Drovers ended their drought with a three from the corner after the break before an Antoniop Ferreira defensive board led to a Chavlovich jumper followed by a USAO layup, the Buffs gave the ball back with a charge that led to one Drovers free throw before Chavlovich knocked down two from the free throw line. The teams traded misses before Quaid grabbed a defensive board under the basket and hit one-of-two from the line to make it 41-35, a USAO turnover gave WT the last shot of the half but a long missed three sent the Buffs into the locker room with the 41-35 lead.
 
The Buffs went 13-of-36 (36.1%) from the floor in the first half including 7-of-18 (38.9%) from deep and 8-of-12 (66.7%) from the free throw line to go along with 18 rebounds (eight offensive, 10 defensive), six fouls, nine assists, five turnovers, no blocks and six steals. Chavlovich led all players at the half with 21 points as he went 6-of-11 from the floor including 4-of-7 from long range followed by Golightly Jr., Gove and Quaid with five points each.
 
USAO went 14-of-30 (46.7%) from the floor including 6-of-13 (46.2%) from long range and 1-of-2 (50%) from the charity stripe to go along with 23 rebounds (six offensive, 17 defensive), 11 fouls, eight assists, 12 turnovers, five blocks and one steal in the first half. The Drovers were led by Buie with 11 points at the break as the New York native went 4-of-8 from the floor including 3-of-5 from deep followed by Richard McCalop with nine points to go along with seven rebounds.
 
USAO went to the line early in the second half as they missed both followed by a Golightly Jr. baseline drive and layup followed by a Buie pullup jumper before Evans knocked down a long ball from the wing to make it 46-37, Bonner grabbed an offensive board followed by Joseph Prince finding the senior under the basket for the layup. The teams traded misses before Chavlovich drove the lane and finished despite the foul as he completed the three point play to run the lead to 51-37, the Drovers gave the ball right back with a travel followed by Chavlovich runner off of the glass headed into the first media timeout of the half with the Buffs leading 53-37 with 15:58 left.
 
The Drovers ended their drought with a dunk after the break before Prince answered with a pair of free throws to run the lead to 55-39 followed by a USAO turnover that turned into a Quaid layup, the freshman grabbed a defensive board that turned into a Golightly Jr. old fashioned three point play with the bucket and the foul to run the lead to 60-39. USAO turned the ball over again as Bonner knocked down two from the charity stripe followed by another Drovers turnover on an alley-oop attempt as Bonner hit one-of-two from the line, a Drovers miss and foul allowed Prince hit two from the line followed by a miss and a Prince jumper in the paint to run the lead to 67-39. The teams traded misses before USAO hit a free throw to end a 3:18 scoring drought before Evans answered on the other end of the floor with a long ball from the top of the key to give WT the 69-40 lead with 11:48 left.
 
USAO connected on a layup after the break but couldn't complete the three point play followed by a WT turnover before an Evans defensive rebound led to a Gerber long ball from the corner to run it 72-42, the Drovers answered with a layup by Greg Smith followed by a WT foul but USAO missed from the line again as Garrett Brockman found Golightly Jr. under the basket as the junior transfer knocked down one-of-two followed by a Ferreira offensive board and Chavlovich three from the top of the key. The teams traded misses and free throws as Golightly Jr. scored four from the charity stripe followed by misses on both ends before a USAO turnover sent the teams into a media timeout with WT leading 80-46 with 7:54 left.
 
The teams traded misses after the break followed by a WT charge but USAO couldn't turn it into points as they missed a three from the corner as Prince answered with a floater in the lane to run the score to 82-46, Ferreira hit two from the charity stripe followed by a Drovers charge in transition to negate a layup that led to a Ferreira layup. Quaid registered a big block that led to a Prince free throw before the Drovers ended a scoring drought of 3:48 with a free throw at 4:59. A WT miss led to another free throw by the Drovers followed by a WT turnover but Ferreira swatted the USAO layup attempt away headed into the final media timeout with WT leading 87-48 with 3:46 left.
 
Chandler Fuzak registered a block that led to a Ferreira three from the wing followed by the Drovers hitting one-of-two from the line before a WT miss led to a USAO transition layup to cut the lead to 90-51, WT turned the ball over that led to a Drovers three from the wing before a WT illegal screen that allowed USAO to knock down two from the line with 1:26 left. The teams traded possessions before Ferreira hit one-of-two from the line followed by a USAO fast break layup with under a minute left, Ferreira nailed a jumper from the baseline followed by a USAO turnover that ended the game, 93-58.
 
The Buffs went 28-of-65 (43.1%) from the field including 11-of-32 (34.4%) from lone range and 26-of-35 (74.3%) from the charity stripe to go along with 45 rebounds (12 offensive, 33 defensive), 21 fouls, 18 assists, 11 turnovers, five blocks and nine steals on the night. Chavlovich went 9-of-15 from the floor including 5-of-9 from deep to score a game high 29 points followed by Golightly Jr. with 15 and Ferreira with 10.
 
The Drovers were led offensively by McCalop with 14 points as he went 5-of-7 from the floor followed by Buie with 13 points on the night. USAO went 21-of-60 (35%) from the floor including 7-of-24 (29.2%) from deep and 9-of-18 (50%) from the free throw line to go along with 41 rebounds (12 offensive, 29 defensive), 28 fouls, 14 assists, 23 turnovers, five blocks and five steals in the game.

The Buffs will close out their five-game homestand this weekend as they host the 2015 Pak-A-Sak WT Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas. The Buffs will face-off with Nova Southeastern on Friday night at 5 p.m. followed by a Saturday matchup with Emporia State at 5 p.m. with Eastern New Mexico also taking part in the event.
