CANYON, Texas – The Chaps of Lubbock Christian outscored West Texas A&M by 26 points in the paint on Thursday night as the Buffs dropped their 2015 home opener, 74-64 to LCU in front of 1,379 fans at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas. The Buffs fall to 1-2 on the season while the Chaps improve to 2-1.
The Buffs went 20-59 (33.9%) from the floor including 10-30 (33.3%) from deep and 14-22 (63.6%) from the charity stripe to go along with 31 rebounds (12 offensive, 19 defensive), 20 fouls, 10 assists, 16 turnovers, six blocks and six steals on the night. The Buffs were led by Evans with 14 points while
David Chavlovich (13), Golightly Jr. (12) and Walton (11) all scored in double digits for the Buffs while Walton registered a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Lubbock Christian went 29-59 from the floor (49.2%) including 0-7 (0%) from three point range and 16-19 (84.2%) from the free throw line to go along with 45 rebounds (12 offensive, 33 defensive), 18 fouls, 13 assists, 15 turnovers, one blocks and eight steals. The Chaps were led by Cardona with 22 points and 15 rebounds for the double-double followed by A.J. Luckey with 18 and Michael Grant with 11 points on the night.
NEXT TIME OUTThe Buffs continue their homestand on Saturday afternoon as they take on the Cowboys of New Mexico Highlands with tipoff set for 4 p.m. at the First United Bank Center. WT topped the Cowboys, 89-74 last Saturday night in Durango at the Skyhawk Regional Challenge, NMHU fell to Division I Wyoming, 72-60 on Thursday night in Laramie, Wyoming.
