Lady Buffs Host the Javelinas and Jets in Saturday Triangular Action at the WTAMU Fieldhouse

CANYON, Texas –
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M will look to get back on the winning track on Saturday afternoon as they host Texas A&M-Kingsville and Newman in triangular action starting at 12:30 p.m. at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon. The Lady Buffs will take on TAMUK in Lone Star Conference action to begin the afternoon followed by a neutral site matchup between the Javelinas and Newman (3:30 p.m.) before WT and the Jets wrap-up the action at 7:00 p.m.
 
WEST TEXAS A&M
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M hit just .146 as a team with 24 attack errors as they fell to the rival Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico (20-25, 16-25, 25-17, 20-25) on Tuesday night at Greyhound Arena in Portales, New Mexico. ENMU snaps an 18 match losing streak to the Lady Buffs who fell to 7-9 (1-5 LSC) while the Greyhounds improved to 7-9 (1-5 LSC) on the season.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
The WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 438-65 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 87.2%. The Lady Buffs are no-stranger to starting off the season on a high-note, WT is 31-5 all-time in season opening games including an impressive 27-1 when the Lady Buffs open-up the season at home including a sweep of Dallas Baptist earlier this season.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, the 2014 Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year, is now in his seventh season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 344-58 (.870, 12th year) including a 208-38 (.865) mark in Canyon.

THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
Entering Tuesday, LSC volleyball teams were 79-46 overall this season, the squads were 18-7 combined versus Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, and 12-5 against the Heartland Conference, which are the other leagues in the NCAA South Central Region. Texas A&M-Kingsville's Valarie Moehrig (Offensive) and Tarleton State's Ayssa Garcia (Defensive) picked up weekly Lone Star Conference awards while Texas Woman's Joey Redwine was tabbed the league's Setter of the Week Tuesday afternoon by the LSC offices located in Richardson, Texas.
 
TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE
The Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville enter the weekend with an overall record of 11-8 with a 2-4 mark in LSC play as they enter the weekend on a two match winning streak. TAMUK is led by fifth year head coach Tanya Allen who led the Javelinas to an 18-13 season and their third straight Lone Star Conference Tournament appearance in 2014. The Javelinas are led offensively by Krystal Faison with 223 kills to average 3.10 per set this season followed by closely Valarie Moehrig with 210 kills (3.00/set), defending LSC Setter of the Year Casey Klobedans guides the TAMUK offense with 727 assists this season to average 10.10 per frame while Brett Zaccardo leads the team with 356 digs. The Javelinas are hitting .194 as a team this season with 935 kills on 2,653 attempts with 419 errors to go along with 879 assists, 101 service aces, 1,270 digs and 134.5 total blocks to average 1.87 per frame. The Javelinas travel to Portales, New Mexico on Friday night.
 
THE SERIES VS. TAMUK
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against the Javelinas, 48-7 with WT taking the last 17 meetings between the two teams in a series dating back to the 1980 season. Texas A&M-Kingsville is 26-3 all-time in Canyon including 9-1 in their last 10 trips with the lone win coming on Oct. 16, 2004 in four sets.
 
GOING FOR 1,000
The Lady Buffs registered their 998th and 999th program victories dating back to the 1980 season in a pair of wins last Saturday over Oklahoma City University and Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Lady Buffs are an impressive 999-355-2 since the 1980 season for a winning percentage of 73.6% when WT started competing in the NCAA following a run through the AIWA.
 
NEWMAN
The Jets enter the weekend with an overall record of 15-4 with a 7-1 mark in Heartland Conference play following a sweep over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Thursday night to run their win streak to 13 matches. Newman is led by first year head coach Destiny Clark who was previously the head coach at Wichita Collegiate High School for two seasons, she played collegiately at the University of Arkansas. The Jets are led offensively by Ashley Gonzalez with 284 kills to average 4.24 per set followed by Kayla Turner with 169 (2.56/set), Alexus Litts guides the Jets offense with 721 assists to average 10.76 per set while Anna Burton leads the team with 356 digs (5.24/set). Newman is hitting .209 as a team with 8915 kills on 2,579 swings with 375 attack errors to go along with 845 assists, 112 service aces, 1,198 digs and 99 total blocks to average 1.46 per set this season. The Jets will play Eastern New Mexico in Portales on Friday.
 
THE SERIES VS. NEWMAN
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against the Jets, 2-0 with the last meeting coming during the 2010 season as WT outlasted Newman in five sets on Oct. 1st during the opening match of the Missouri Southern Classic in Joplin. The only other meeting between the two teams came during the 2008 season when the Lady Buffs swept past the Jets during the Pitt State Classic in Pittsburg, Kansas. Saturday will mark the first ever meeting between the two teams in Canyon.
