Angelo State Outlasts West Texas A&M in a Friday Night Five Set Thriller at The Box

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M and Angelo State renewed one of the best rivalries in Division II Volleyball on Friday night in Canyon and the matchup lived up to the hype as the Lady Buffs battled back from down 1-2 to force a fifth set before the Belles took the thrilling win (25-17, 17-25, 21-25, 25-22, 13-15) at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box". The Lady Buffs drop their fourth straight contest to move to 11-14 (3-10 LSC) while the Belles improve to 23-5 (9-2 LSC) on the season.
 
The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Bentsen with 13 kills on 17 swings with no attack errors to hit an incredible .765 on the night while Curl (11) and Haley (10) all tallied double-digit kills for the Lady Buffs, Jackson guided the WT offense with 34 assists while Schulz registered 15 to go along with nine digs while Haley led the team with 18 digs for the double-double. The Lady Buffs hit .251 as a team with 61 kills on 175 swings swings 17 attack errors to go along with 59 assists, 80 digs, five service aces and 13 total blocks on the night. Davis registered 10 assisted blocks in the match to rank 10th in the WT record books to tie Erin Dougherty (2011), Kelly Culley (2006), Lauren Purdy (2009) and Laura Iwuchukwu (2012).
 
Angelo State was led offensively by Sotello with a match high 23 kills followed by Blauser with 22, Seaton with 12 and Lynn with 10, Sotello also tallied 14 digs in the match for the double-double while MacLeay led all players with 26 digs to go along with Keffury who led all players with 64 assists in the match. The Belles hit .256 as a team with 75 kills on 195 attempts with 25 attack errors to go along with 71 assists, two service aces, 87 digs and six total blocks in the match.

The Lady Buffs return to the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" for their final weekend home match of the season tomorrow night as they take on the first place TexAnns of Tarleton State for an Halloween night matchup with first serve set for 5 p.m. following WT's Wagon Wheel matchup with Eastern New Mexico at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium set for a Noon kickoff. Fans entering either the football or volleyball game on Saturday wearing a Halloween costume will receive $1 admission.
