DENTON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M battled back from an 0-2 deficit and fended off five different match points in the final frame before falling to the Pioneers of Texas Woman's in Lone Star Conference action (18-25, 12-25, 25-19, 25-22, 17-19) on Friday night at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton, Texas. The Lady Buffs snap a four match win streak to fall to 11-11 (3-7 LSC) while the Pioneers improve to 17-5 (7-3 LSC) with the win.
The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Davis with 12 kills followed by Haley with 12 kills and 18 digs for the double-double while Montgomery (11) and Bentsen (10) all tallied double-digit kills, Jackson guided the WT offense with 45 assists to go along with 20 digs for the double-double while Britten led the team with 22 digs on the night. The Lady Buffs hit .144 as a team with 59 kills on 209 swings with 29 attack errors to go along with 57 assists, two service aces, 103 digs and 11 blocks.
Texas Woman's was led by Schaffer with a match high 17 kills while Kuechel (14), Mayfield (14) and Oxford (12) tallied double-digit kills for TWU, Redwine led all players with 55 assists on the night while also leading all players with 26 digs in the match for a double-double. The Pioneers hit .198 as a team with 70 kills on 212 swings with 28 attack errors to go along with 66 assists, three service aces, 112 digs and 15 total blocks on the night.
NEXT TIME OUTThe Lady Buffs continue their Lone Star Conference road trip on Saturday afternoon as they head to Commerce, Texas to try and avenge an early season loss to Texas A&M-Commerce with the first serve between WT and the Lions set for 1 p.m. at the TAMUC Fieldhouse. The Lions (13-8, 5-5 LSC) topped Eastern New Mexico in four sets on Friday night in Commerce.
