Lady Buff Hit the Road to Take on Texas Woman’s and Texas A&M-Commerce This Weekend

CANYON, Texas –
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M will look to continue their four match win streak this weekend as they head south for Lone Star Conference action starting on Friday night in Denton (7:30 p.m.) as they take on Texas Woman's followed by a Saturday matchup (1 p.m.) at Texas A&M-Commerce.
 
WEST TEXAS A&M
The Lady Buffs of West Texas moved their win streak to four matches and moved above .500 in the process on Tuesday night as they powered past Wayland Baptist (25-17, 25-20, 25-11) in front of over 500 fans at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box". The Lady Buffs move to 11-10 on the season while the Pioneers snap a seven match win streak to fall to 21-6.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
The WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 443-66 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 87.3%. The Lady Buffs are no-stranger to starting off the season on a high-note, WT is 31-5 all-time in season opening games including an impressive 27-1 when the Lady Buffs open-up the season at home including a sweep of Dallas Baptist earlier this season.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, the 2014 Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year, is now in his seventh season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 347-60 (.870, 12th year) including a 211-40 (.865) mark in Canyon.

THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
LSC volleyball teams are 114-73 overall this season. The squads are currently 19-7 combined versus Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, and 18-7 against the Heartland Conference, which are the other leagues in the NCAA South Central Region. Eastern New Mexico's Lauren Frye was named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week while Angelo State's Brianna Sotello picked up the Defensive honors, ASU's Maggi Jo Keffury was tabbed the league's Setter of the Week announced on Tuesday afternoon by the LSC offices located in Richardson, Texas.
 
TEXAS WOMAN'S
The Pioneers enter the weekend with an overall record of 16-5  with a 6-3 mark in LSC play following a non-conference sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma State on Tuesday ngith in Denton. TWU is led by 13th year head coach Shelly Barberee who has compiled an overall record of 210-177 and a 105-63 mark in Lone Star Conference play in Denton. The Pioneers are led offensively by Makayla Mayfield with 197 kills on 675 swings with 67 attack errors to hit .193 on the season while averaging 3.46 kills per frame followed by Hillary Shaffer with 71 overall kills to average 2.94 per set. Joey Redwine guides the Pioneer offense with 665 assists on the season to average 9.78 per set while teammate Mallory Kuechle leads the way defensively with 257 digs to average 3.67 per frame. Texas Woman's is hitting .220 as a team with 882 kills on 2,663 swings with 297 attack errors, 805 assists, 106 service aces, 1,219 digs and 148 total blocks to average 2.11 per set this season.
 
THE SERIES vs. TWU
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series againt Texas Woman's, 42-6 with the Pioneers claiming their first ever win over the Lady Buffs in Canyon back on Sept. 19th to snap a 24 match win streak by the Lady Buffs. WT is 13-3 all-tme in Denton as they have claimed the last eight meetings there dating back to October 4, 1996 when the Pioneers topped WT in four sets. Three of the last nine meetings between the two teams have gone to five sets with three sweeps also happening in that span.
 
TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE
The Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce enter the week with an overall record of 12-8 with a 4-5 mark in Lone Star Conference play following a non-conference road sweep of St. Edward's on Tuesday night in Austin. The Lions are led by sixth year head coach Craig Case who has a 131-168 career record in his 10 years of coaching including a 75-75 mark in Commerce. Taryn Driver leads the way offensively with 204 kills on 591 swings with 99 attack errors to hit .178 on the season while Layne Little has registered 158 kills, Courtney Tate guides the TAMUC offense with 726 assists so far this season to average 9.68 per frame. Commerce is hitting .178 as a team with 930 kills on 2,739 swings with 443 attack errors to go along with 850 assists, 91 service aces, 1,150 digs and 119.5 total blocks to average 1.59 per frame this season.
 
THE SERIES vs. TAMUC
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against Texas A&M-Commerce, 39-10 with a Commerce win back on Sept. 20th in Canyon snapping a 21 match win streak by West Texas A&M. The Lady Buffs are 13-5 all-time in Commerce with WT claiming the last six meetings between the two teams at the TAMUC Fieldhouse. The last Lions win came in Commerce on Oct. 12, 1996 in four sets. Seven of the last nine meetings between the two teams have ended in straight set wins by the Lady Buffs.
