Lady Buffs Host Midwestern State and Cameron This Weekend at The Box in LSC Action

CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M return to the friendly confines of the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" this weekend for Lone Star Conference action as they host Midwestern State (6 p.m.) in a Highway 287 Challenge Cup matchup on Friday night followed by a matchup with Cameron on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
 
WEST TEXAS A&M
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M snapped Newman's 15 match win streak and made a little history of their own last Saturday night as they picked up the program's 1,000th victory dating back to the 1980 season as WT swept the Jets (25-16, 25-21, 25-12) in front of over 400 fans at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon. The Lady Buffs moved to 8-10 overall while the Jets fall to 17-5 on the season following a sweep over Texas A&M-Kingsville earlier that afternoon.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
The WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 440-66 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 87.2%. The Lady Buffs are no-stranger to starting off the season on a high-note, WT is 31-5 all-time in season opening games including an impressive 27-1 when the Lady Buffs open-up the season at home including a sweep of Dallas Baptist earlier this season.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, the 2014 Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year, is now in his seventh season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 344-60 (.870, 12th year) including a 208-40 (.865) mark in Canyon.

THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
Entering Tuesay, LSC teams were 104-65 overall this season. The squads are currently 19-7 combined versus Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, and 17-7 against the Heartland Conference, which are the other leagues in the NCAA South Central Region. Tarleton State's Hailey Roberts was named the LSC and AVCA DII National Offensive Player of the Week while Angelo State's Katie MacLeay picked up the Defensive honors, ASU's Maggi Jo Keffury was tabbed the league's Setter of the Week Tuesday afternoon by the LSC offices located in Richardson, Texas.
 
MIDWESTERN STATE
The Mustangs enter Friday with an overall record of 5-16 with an 0-7 mark in LSC action with a pair of league losses to Tarleton State and Angelo State last weekend. The Mustangs are led by first year head coach Natalie Rawson who came to Wichita Falls following two seasons as the head coach at Newman University where she led the Jets to a record of 30-26 with an appearance in the Heartland Conference Tournament. MSU is led offensively by Meghan Bettis with 172 kills on the season with 645 attack attempts and 88 errors to hit .130 while averaging 2.57 kills per frame, Hayden Blair guides the Mustang offense with 584 assists on the season to average 7.49 per set while Matti Dix leads the team in digs with 348 to averge 4.41 per frame this season. The Mustangs are hitting .125 as a team with 912 kills on 3,166 swings with 515 errors to go along with 857 assists, 1,364 digs and 129 total blocks to average 1.63 per frame this season.
 
THE SERIES VS. MSU
The Lady Buffs are a perfect 31-0 all-time against Midwestern State dating back to the 1980 season. WT has won all 12 meetings between the two teams in Canyon with 11 of them coming in straight sets. Since the beginning of the Jason Skoch era at WT in 2009, the Lady Buffs are 12-0 against the Mustangs with all but two of those victories coming in straight sets. WT overcame an 0-2 start to register a five set win over the Mustangs back on Sept. 29th in Wichita Falls.
 
CAMERON
The Cameron Aggies enter the weekend with an overall record of 13-3 with a 4-3 mark in LSC play following three straight losses to Texas Woman's, Angelo State and Tarleton State following a 13-0 start to the season. The Aggies are led by second year head coach Qui Wong who guided the Aggies to the LSC Semifinals during his first season in Lawton. The Aggies are led offensively by Kate Evans with 189 kills on 530 swings with 66 attack errors to hit .232 on the season with an average of 3.10 kills per set, Tori Luckenbill guides the Cameron offense with 516 assists to average 8.90 per set while Cristina Viera leads the team in digs with 240 (3.93/set). The Aggies are hitting .196 as a team this season with 766 kill on 2,337 swings with 307 attack errors to go along with 712 assists, 70 service aces, 1,162 digs and 105.5 total blocks to average 1.73 per frame.
 
THE SERIES VS. CU
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against the Aggies, 45-2 with WT taking the last 25 meetings between the two teams. Cameron is 0-22 all-time against West Texas A&M in matches played in Canyon dating back to the start of the series in 1988.
 
HIGHWAY 287 CHALLENGE
Midwestern State University and West Texas A&M University are proud to announce the continuation of the Highway 287 Challenge Cup during the 2015-16 school year. US Highway 287 connects the communities of Wichita Falls and Amarillo/Canyon. WT won the first two Highway 287 Challenge Cups. The Challenge, which originated at the request of both student bodies in 2012, tracks head-to-head match-ups and conference championship results in 10 sports between MSU and WT.
