The loss snapped WT's nine-game winning streak, while MSU ran its winning streak to 11 games. WT fell to 9-2 on the year and 0-1 in Lone Star Conference play, while MSU improved to 12-1 and 3-0 in league play.
For the game, the Lady Buffs had three players in double figures led by a career-high 23 points from sophomore
Sasha Watson as she was 6 of 13 from the field and a career-best 11 of 14 from the line. Senior
Chontiquah White tallied her fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds and senior
Haylee Oliver added 11 points off the bench going a perfect 5 of 5 from the field with one triple.
WT went just 9 of 27 from the field in the second half after opening 12 of 22. WT shot 21 of 49 from the field for a 42.9 percent and was 3 of 11 from beyond the arc and 19 of 26 from the line.
MSU went 15 of 26 from the field in the second half for 47.4 percent for the game on 27 of 57. The Mustangs were 3 of 13 from beyond the arc and 20 of 27 from the line. Five players were in double figures for the Mustangs led by a team-high 17 points from Andrea Carter.
WT outrebounded the Mustangs 38-29, but 18 turnovers leading to 20 points proved costly as MSU turned it over just eight times.
The Lady Buffs showed no ill effects of being off for 19 days in the first half, however, except in the turnover department as MSU scored nine points off nine WT miscues for a 30-24 lead with 2:45 left in the first half. WT opened 9 of 18 from the field and was 4 of 5 from the line and 2 of 5 from beyond the arc. MSU was 11 of 26 from the field and 2 of 6 from range, while going a perfect 6 of 6 from the line.
WT used a 6-0 run to tie the game at 30 with 90 seconds left in the half capped on a steal and layup from sophomore
Sasha Watson. Two free throws by Andrea Carter pushed the MSU lead to 34-30 with 50 seconds left. After one of two free throws from Watson, MSU missed its shot as Watson looked to be fouled at the bucket at the other end, but nothing was called with the half ended 34-31 in favor of MSU.

Haylee Oliver led all scorers with nine points each. McLain was 3 of 5 from the field and 1 of 2 from beyond the arc, while going 2 of 3 from the line. Oliver was 4 of 4 from the field with one triple. WT was 12 of 22 from the field for 54.5 percent and was 2 of 5 from range. The Lady Buffs were 5 of 7 from the line and had 17 rebounds with five assists and 11 turnovers.
MSU shot 12 of 31 from the field for 38.7 percent and was 2 of 8 from beyond the arc, while going a perfect 8 of 8 from the line. Carter and Lisa Hampton each had eight points to lead the team.
The deficit at half was the third of the season for the Lady Buffs and just the second time in LSC play under Kellogg (0-1). He is 6-2 as head coach of the Lady Buffs when trailing at half overall. Both deficits this season WT came back and won.
The half saw five lead changes and four ties.
A poor start to the second half and turnovers proved to be the difference in the game for the Lady Buffs. WT went 3 of 12 to open the half through the first 10 minutes as MSU heated up making 7 of its first 12 for the lead for good.
Two free throws from Watson and one by senior
Chontiquah White pulled WT within 40-34 with 16:21 left. White had just two points in the first half on just 1 of 4 shooting. She did have four rebounds in the first half.
Out of the first media timeout, senior
Ariel Robertson made two free throws bringing WT within 40-34 with 15 minutes left. MSU star Dianna Jones was injured as she fouled Robertson on the play. Buckets from Shambreka Jones and Shatoia Gober swelled the lead back to eight at 44-36, but White scored off an offensive rebound at the other end for the Lady Buffs' first field goal of the second half with 13:20 left.
A big triple from Hampton, her third of the game, swelled the lead to 50-40 for the largest of the game with 11:30 left. White cut the deficit to 52-44 with 10:39 left on a pair of free throws. Carter scored in the paint for a 56-44 lead with 8:27 left and a timeout by WT as it was the largest lead of the game. MSU made five of its last seven field goals.
Watson pulled WT within 10 at 58-48 with 7:22 left on a pair of free throws as she was 7 of 8 at the line to that point. Two more free throws for Watson pulled WT within 10 once again at 60-50 with six minutes left.
A triple from junior
Danielle Logan pulled the Lady Buffs within 62-55 with 4:30 left. A steal and layup from Watson cut the deficit to 71-63 with 59 seconds left. WT pulled within nine with one free throw from Watson who set her career-high with her 23
rd point at 73-64.
WT returns home to host Cameron on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the First United Bank Center.
