Season Statistics

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The West Texas A&M women's soccer team suffered a familiar blow to the Rambelles of Angelo State on Sunday afternoon in San Angelo, Texas. ASU swept the season series with a 3-0 shutout victory over WT where like the first meeting, the Rambelles were led with two goals off the feet of Sierra Anderson. With the loss, WT falls to 6-10 overall and 2-6 in Lone Star Conference play. ASU now improves to 12-3-1 (5-3-1, LSC).

ASU held a strong advantage in shots on the day, 19-5, after a huge second-half surge. The Rambelles also lead in shots on target, 9-2. Sophomore keeper Nicole Kemper took the loss and falls to 3-5 on the year after making six saves and allowing three goals. Receiving the win for ASU was Shantel Wittke who grabbed the shutout and made two stops.

The Rambelles nearly grabbed an early lead in just the 7th minute on Sunday afternoon in San Angelo. ASU's leading scorer, Sierra Anderson, drilled the home team's opening shot of the day right into the crossbar, but the ball bounced into two WT defenders leading to a quick clear. Outside of the Lady Buffs' first attempt by senior Jessie Thomas, a shot sent high of the goal, play remained very quiet with limited chances for either side for much of the half's remainder.

Play picked up with around 10 minutes left in the first frame. Freshman Lucy Chalgren would get another shot off for WT in the 34th minute, also high of the mark while Anderson grabbed two more chances in the ensuing minutes, one sent high and another wide of the mark.

Both teams would get a final shot-on-goal off before the break. The attempts came from junior Haley Girard for WT and Tiffany Dang for ASU. Each would be saved by Wittke and Kemper, respectively.

ASU held the shot advantage after the first 45 minutes of play, 6-4, while each team had only one attempt on-goal. Anderson led the way in the match with three of those attempts to her credit.

The Rambelles stepped on the gas right out of the break in the second half with a couple of quick shots-on-goal. Soon after, they would take the lead as Anderson scored her third goal against WT this season to make the score 1-0 in favor of ASU in the 52nd minute. She took the strike into the low corner to beat Kemper and was assisted by Cynthia Andrews.

The home team continued to pressure as they kept Kemper on her toes over the next 25 minutes and not allowing the Lady Buff offense to find any rhythm. Anderson then found the net again with her 10th goal of the season in the 88th minute.

The Rambelles would grab one final goal in the final minute of the match with a penalty kick goal by Elizabeth Rodriguez.

With the loss, the Lady Buffs are now 15-10-5 all-time against the Rambelles and have dropped both meetings this season.

WT will return to action next weekend as it closes out LSC play and the regular season with two matches at home against Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's. The Lady Buffs will host TAMUC first on Friday night at 7 pm. WT is 19-10-2 all-time against the Lions and won the first meeting this season, 1-0, in Commerce. TWU will be the final opponent on Sunday at 1 p.m. WT is 11-3-2 all-time against the Pioneers but dropped the first meeting this season in Denton. Live stats and a free video web stream will be available for both matches courtesy of West Texas A&M Athletic Media Relations.
