Senior (2014-15) Cross Country: Villarreal started the season with a season-best 24:37.2 in the 8K at the Texas Tech Open, placing him fifth overall. He would earn LSC Runner of the Week honors following that event. During the regular season, Villarreal went on to place sixth at the OSU Cowboy Jamboree (8K) and 15th at Chile Pepper (8K). At the LSC Championship (8K), he was the runner-up with a second-place showing, helping the Buffs to a second-consecutive LSC title and earning himself LSC All-Conference honors. Villarreal picked up USTFCCCA All-Region accolades at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship (10K), placing 19th overall and went on to place 47th at the NCAA National Championship (10K), leading the Buffs to an 11th place national finish, the best in program history. Villarreal was also named to the LSC Academic All-Conference team.
Track & Field: Competed in the 5000m and 10,000m events during the outdoor season
Junior (2013-14) Cross Country: Villarreal began the season by placing 26th overall in the college division of the 25th annual Chili Pepper Cross Country Festival (8K) with a time of 26:14.1. He followed up by earning LSC All-Conference with his 15th place showing at the LSC Championships (8K) with a time of 26:19.10. Villarreal then finished 55th at 32:37 in the NCAA South Central Regional Championships (10K), helping his team to fifth-place and the Buffs' first national qualifying spot at nationals in program history. Went on as the fourth Buff to cross the line at the NCAA National Championships (10K) at 32:35.9, helping lead his team to a 14th place finish.
Track & Field: Scored in both the 5000m (second) and 3000m (eighth) at the LSC Indoor Championship, helping the Buffs to their first title in program history. Set personal bests in 2014 in the mile (4:34.30), 3000m (8:54.85) and 5000m (15:29.41). Redshirted during the outdoor season. Named to the LSC Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll and CoSIDA Capital One First-Team Academic All District (XC and T&F). After the academic year was finished, Villarreal was named Capital One Academic First-Team All-District for the XC/T&F season combined.
Sophomore (2012-2013) Track & Field: Villarreal competed in the 1500m, 3000m, 5000m and 10000m events during his first semester with the Buffs. Earned seven top-10 finishes including a first-place showing in the 10000m at the WT Classic. His top times included 4:25.85 (1500m), 9:16.74 (3000m), 15:53.65 (5000m) and 32:49.75 (10000m).
South Plains College: Spent his freshman season at South Plains College. Earned all-region.
High School: Graduated from Tascosa HS in 2010. Competed in cross country and track. Earned Happy State Bank Honor Roll and all-district honors. Also a three-year letter-winner in soccer.
Personal: Born Feb. 26, 1992. Son of Sam and Cheri Barrientos. Has three siblings Braydon (20), Jessica (14) and Toryn (11). Majoring in finance at West Texas A&M.
