RICHARDSON, TEXAS . – No. 8 West Texas A&M Men's and No. 8 Women's Cross Country swept the Lone Star Conference (LSC) weekly awards as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon. The freshman duo of Meshack Keter and Michelle Jemutai would both be named LSC Runner and Freshman of the Week.  
 
Both runners made their debut for WT this past Friday as they competed in the Texas Tech Open in Lubbock, Texas with strong showings. Keter compiled a time of 23:52.7 as he took second place in the 8k on the LCU Cross Country Course. The Buffs would take first in the event with 43 points. Jemutai paced the Lady Buffs in the 6k as she also took second in the event. The Iten, Kenya native ran a time of 21:19.3 as WT scored 35 points to also come out victorious.
 
Keter would also be named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week.
 
This was the 14th time in program history where WT has won LSC Men's and Women's Runner of the Week with the last time occurring October 7, 2025, with Adrian Legarreta and Sarah Koomson. This was also the second time where West Texas A&M has earned all four LSC weekly awards with the first time coming on October 6, 2021, with Innocent Murwanashyaka (Male Runner), Florance Uwajeneza (Female Runner), Gustavo Posada (Male Freshman), and Betty Bajika (Female Freshman).
 
Keter, Jemutai and the rest of the No. 8 Buffs will be back in action on Saturday, October 3 as they compete in the Louisville Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.
