NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA . – No. 8 West Texas A&M Men's Cross Country freshman runner Meshack Keter was named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week as announced by the organization Monday afternoon. Keter led the Buffs with a second-place finish at the Texas Tech Open as WT earned a victory to open the season.
 
Keter would make his debut in the Maroon and White in Lubbock, Texas at the LCU Cross Country Course and did not disappoint. Running a strong race with great pacing throughout, he would finish second in the event with a time of 23:52.7 that only trailed Texas Tech's Titus Kimaru by four seconds for first place. The Kenya native would score two of the Buffs 43 points as they cruised to a victory in their first meet of the season.
 
Keter is the first Buff to be named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week, since two-time National Champion William Amponsah won the award in 2023 on October 2.  
 
Keter and the rest of the No. 8 Buffs will be back in action on Saturday, October 3 as they compete in the Louisville Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.
