CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M's
Carlos Fernández Mortera shot a 68 (-4) during Tuesday's final round to start off the fall with a victory at the Travis Roy Memorial at The Powder Horn Golf Community in Sheridan, Wyoming.
The senior from Gijon, Spain had seven birdies and three bogeys on Tuesday highlighted by five birdies on the front nine. Fernandez Mortera shot a 32 (-4) on the front nine and an even-par 36 on the back as he began the round on the 520-yard par-five 15
th hole. A birdie on the 375-yard par-four 13
th hole, his second to last hole of the day, clinched a one-stroke win over Colorado Christian's Jude Robbins.
David Vega Gerstel claimed the third Top 10 finish of his career with rounds of 77, 68 and 74 for a 219 (+3) to finish tied for seventh.
Kolby Stork jumped seven spots on the individual leaderboard in the final round as the sophomore shot a 72 (E) with four birdies to finish tied for 12
th overall.
WT shot a +2 (290) during the final round to finish with a team total of 876 (+12) to finish fourth overall in the 12-team field. Colorado Christian shot rounds of 290, 379 and 295 for an 864 (E) to win the team title by four strokes over Colorado School of Mines.
The Buffs return to the course on September 21-22 as they travel to Montrose, Colorado to take part in the San Juan Intercollegiate hosted by Colorado Mesa at The Bridges Golf & Country Club.
