CANYON, Texas – The #16 Buffaloes shot an opening round 300 (+12) to sit tied for sixth after the opening round of The Travis Roy Memorial at the Powder Horn Golf Community (Par 72 – 7,111 Yards) in Sheridan, Wyoming.
Carlos Fernández Mortera and
Kolby Stork both led the way for the Buffs with a 74 (+2) to tie for 14
th. WT placed three golfers inside of the Top 25 as Canyon product
Huey Black shot a 75 (+3) in his first collegiate event to sit tied for 21
st.
The Buffs had 13 birdies and 62 pars during the opening round as they were tied for fifth on par-four scoring (4) while sitting fifth on the par-five (4.83). Colorado Mesa leads the team leaderboard at +1 (289) to hold a one-stroke lead over Colorado Christian (290, +2). Fort Lewis and Texas A&M International were the only two teams in the field to not finish the first round due to darkness.
Davis Kushner of Colorado School of Mines and Jude Robbins of Colorado Christian shot a -3 (69) to sit tied atop of the individual leaderboard following the opening round.
The Buffs will be paired with Augustana during the second round with a shotgun start starting at 12:00 p.m. CT.
