CANYON, TEXAS – The #6 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M couldn't overcome three defensive miscues on Friday afternoon as they dropped game two of the NCAA South Central Super Regional, 8-6 to the #22 Oklahoma Christian Eagles at Schaeffer Park.
The winner-take-all title game began on Friday evening before a lightning delay and thunderstorm forced the postponement until Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The contest will resume in the top of the third inning with a WT runner on third and two outs in a scoreless game.
Game 1 – Oklahoma Christian 8, West Texas A&M 6
The Lady Buffs jumped out to an early lead in the top of the opening frame as
Jordyn De Los Santos became the new West Texas A&M and Lone Star Conference single-season homerun record holder with her 26
th of the season, a solo shot to left field for the 1-0 lead.
Oklahoma Christian got on the board in the home half of the second on a Marti Yaerger RBI single down the left field line that scored Kiley Brewster with no outs followed later in the frame by a Maci George walk with the bases loaded and a Sydnee Seat single up the middle to make it 4-1.
The Eagles added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning when Kadence Brewster layed down a perfect squeeze bunt to score her sister Kiley at 5-1. OC added to their lead in the fourth on an errant WT throw that scored George for the 6-1 advantage.
OC added to their lead in the home half of the fifth inning as Seat singled to shallow center field with two outs to plate Zyria Palmer followed by a Danae Lopez base hit that scored Ally McDougal at 8-1. WT cut into the lead in the top of the sixth on a
Heaven Moreno RBI single down the right field line that score
Lily Mulder to make it 8-2.
The Lady Buffs wouldn't go down without a fight in the seventh as
Trinity Kuntz drove home
Bella Holland with the bases loaded and no outs to force an Oklahoma Christian move to the bullpen.
Cadence Colborn and
Brooke Janning drove home runs followed by an errant OC throw that scored another at 8-6. OC got out of the jam with a line drive double play back to the circle and a grounder for the 8-6 win.
Laci Peskey claimed the loss (22-5) for the Lady Buffs, allowing five runs (one earned) on five hits with a walk and a strikeout in her 2.0 innings of work
Game 2 – West Texas A&M 0, Oklahoma Christian 0 (Top 3rd, 2 Outs)
The teams traded zeroes in the first two frames of the nightcap before an
Avery Cannon triple to the gap in right center field put a runner on third with two outs as the game entered a lightning delay and subsequent postponement due to thunderstorms in the evening forecast.
