CANYON, TEXAS – It took 15 additional hours but the #6 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M punched their ticket to the program's fourth NCAA Division II College World Series on Saturday morning with a 3-0 shutout win over the #22 Oklahoma Christian Eagles at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas.
Â
The teams traded zeroes in the first two frames of the nightcap before an
Avery Cannon triple to the gap in right center field put a runner on third with two outs as the game entered a lightning delay and subsequent postponement due to thunderstorms in the evening forecast.
Â
The game resumed 15 hours later at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday as the pitcher's duel continued between WT's
Brooke Janning and OC's Ella Resendiz. WT had their chance to push across the first run of the game immediately following the resumption as they loaded the bases but a line drive to the circle ended the frame.
Â
WT finally broke thru in the top of the seventh inning as
Cadence Colborn lifted a solo homerun to center field with one out followed three batters later by an
Avery Cannon two-run shot in the same location for the 3-0 lead. The Eagles battled in the bottom of the frame with a one-out walk but a pair of ground balls gave the Lady Buffs the shutout win.
Â
Janning moved to 24-3 on the season, putting together one of her best performances in the circle as she allowed no runs on just four hits with two walks and two strikeouts in the complete game victory.
Â
The Lady Buffs have been tabbed the fifth seed as they travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the 2026 NCAA Division II College World Series beginning on Thursday afternoon, taking on fourth-seeded Cal State San Marcos at 12:30 p.m. CT at Frost Stadium at Warner Park.
