#6 Lady Buffs Use the Long Ball to Win Game One, 6-5

CANYON, TEXAS – The #6 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M connected on five solo homeruns on Thursday afternoon as they picked up a 6-5 victory over the #22 Oklahoma Christian Eagles in game one of the 2026 NCAA Division II Softball South Central Super Regional Championships at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas.
 
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning on a Kiley Brewster single to center field with two outs to plate Maci George at 1-0. The Lady Buffs used the long ball to tie the game in the bottom of the frame as Jordyn De Los Santos tied the Lone Star Conference and West Texas A&M single-season homerun record with her 25th of the season to make it 1-1.
 
West Texas A&M took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the second inning on an Avery Cannon RBI single up the middle with two outs to score Lily Mulder for the 2-1 lead. OC retook the lead in the top of the fourth inning with a Marti Yaerger two-run single to right to make it 3-2.
 
Cadence Colborn tied up the game again in the home half of the fourth inning with a solo homerun the other way to left field at 3-3. OC retook the lead again in the top of the fifth inning as Danae Lopez lifted a sac fly to center that score Ally McDougal followed by a Brewster RBI double to the gap in left center at 5-3.
 
WT responded in the bottom of the fifth inning as Bella Holland led off the frame with a solo shot to left center followed later in the frame by an Abby Howell solo shot over the batting cages in left at 5-5. The Lady Buffs connected on their fifth homerun of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as Cannon started the frame with a solo shot to left field for the 6-5 lead.
 
Laci Peskey claimed the win (22-4) for the Lady Buffs, allowing no runs on two hits with a walk in her 2.1 innings of relief.
 
The Lady Buffs are now just one win away from a trip to the NCAA Division II College World Series as they battle the #22 Eagles tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. with the winner-take-all game three starting at 6:30 p.m. if necessary.
