CANYON, TEXAS – The #6 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M picked up a 9-0 run-rule victory over the CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves on the opening day of the 2026 NCAA Division II South Central Regional Softball Championships at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas.
Â
The Lady Buffs got on the board in the home half of the second inning as
Avery Cannon connected on a three-run homerun to left center with one out for the 3-0 advantage.Â
Â
WT extended their lead in the bottom of the third inning as
Lily Mulder stole second base with two outs before scoring on a
Brooke Janning RBI single off the base of the wall in left field. The Lady Buffs added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth as
Jordyn De Los Santos doubled to left center to score
Mya Chacon with two outs for the 5-0 lead as the game entered a lightning delay that lasted nearly two hours.
Â
The Lady Buffs stayed hot at the plate after the delay as
Cadence Colborn singled home De Los Santos followed by a Janning two-run double off the left field wall and a double steal that score
Briley Daniels for the 9-0 lead.
Â
That's all the cushion that the Lady Buffs would need as
Laci Peskey entered the circle and allowed one hit with three strikeouts in the top of the fifth to close out the run-rule win. Janning moved to 23-3 for WT, allowing no runs on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts in her four frames.

SCHEDULE UPDATE
The final game of the night was scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. between Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville but the lengthy lightning delay along with fire in the area made the visibility and air-quality conditions unplayable on Thursday night.
Â
The schedule for the remainder of the South Central Regional is being reviewed by the NCAA Softball Committee and that information will be shared on GoBuffsGo.com when available.Â
