Big Second Inning Lifts the Rams Past WT, Game Three Postponed

CANYON, Texas – The Angelo State Rams used an eight run second inning to power their way past the West Texas A&M Buffaloes in Lone Star Conference action on Saturday afternoon in San Angelo, Texas. The game features a pair of lightning delays as the nightcap was postponed to Sunday.

The Rams got on the board in the home half of the first inning on a Payton Bush RBI single to right that scored Chase Pendley at 1-0. Angelo exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the second inning highlighted by a Christian Garnette grand slam and an Austin Beck two-run long ball for the 9-0 lead.

Angelo added to their lead after a lightning delay on a Cooper Knight walk with the bases loaded at 10-0. ASU would push across two more runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 12-0. WT finally got on the board in the top of the sixth with Tristan Menchaca scoring on a balk followed by a Menchaca RBI single in the seventh to score Jonluke Hobdy at 12-2.

Cade Griffin claimed the loss (7-3) on the mound, allowing nine earned runs on nine hits with one walk and a strikeout in his 2.0 innings of work.

Saturday's nightcap was postponed to Sunday due to thunderstorms in the forecast. The Buffs and Rams will close out the series on Sunday with first pitch of a doubleheader set for 1:00 p.m. at Foster Field.
