Buffaloes Drop a Saturday Twin Bill to the #14 Rattlers

CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes struggled at the plate on Saturday afternoon as they dropped both games on a Lone Star Conference doubleheader to the #14 St. Mary's Rattlers at Dickson Stadium in San Antonio, Texas.

The Buffs look to salvage a series split on Sunday afternoon with first pitch of the finale set for Noon.

Game 1 – St. Mary's 3, West Texas A&M 1
The Rattlers pushed across the first run of the afternoon in the bottom of the first inning as Blake Allen tripled to start the game followed by an Ashton Beaird RBI single for the 1-0 lead. StMU added to their lead in the third on a two-run double to the left center field gap at 3-0.

The Buffs got on the board in the top of the fourth inning on a Jacob Police sac fly to left field that scored Anthony Picciano at 3-1. WT struggled at the plate in the opening game of the day, registering just four hits while stranding four base runners in the 3-1 loss.

Cade Griffin claimed the loss (7-1) for the Buffs, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts in the complete game defeat.

Game 2 - St. Mary's 3, West Texas A&M 1
St. Mary's started off the scoring in the nightcap in the home half of the first inning as Dillon Lopez singled thru the right side with one out to plate Allen. The Rattlers added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth on a Garrett Brooks RBI double to the gap in left center that scored Beaird followed by a Ryan Alaniz base hit to left along with a WT miscue to make it 3-0.

WT pushed across their first and only run of the contest in the top of the sixth inning on a Police fielder's choice RBI groundout to short that plated Picciano at 3-1.

Nick Yeager claimed the loss (1-3) for the Buffs, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts in his five innings of work.
