CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M dropped Sunday's series final at Dickson Stadium to the #14 St. Mary's Rattlers, 13-8 in Lone Star Conference baseball action.
The Buffs got on the board in the top of the third inning with a pair of runs as
Timothy Haynes lifted a sac fly to left that plated
Tristan Menchaca followed by a
Luis Reyes RBI single to left to score
Jacob Police at 2-0.
St. Mary's responded in the home half of the frame as they took advantage of WT defensive miscues to push across three runs for the 3-2 advantage. The Rattlers added to their lead in the fourth as they pushed across four runs for the 7-2 lead.
WT battled back in the top of the fifth inning, scoring five runs to tie the game at 7-7. Reyes singled up the middle to plate Picciano followed by a
Will Franklin two-run double down the left field line,
Jonluke Hobdy kept the inning alive with a single to center that scored a pair at 7-7.
The Rattlers retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a Garrett Brooks RBI double down the right field line followed later in the inning by a Rob Gonzalez walk with the bases loaded and a wild pitch to make it 10-7. St. Mary's added insurance runs in the seventh on a Jacob King sac fly and a Ryan Alaniz RBI single for the 13-7 advantage. WT would cut into the lead in the top of the ninth as Reyes scored from third base on a wild pitch with one out at 13-8.
Shea Lake picked up the loss (4-1) for the Buffs, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits with two walks and a strikeout in his 2.2 frames of relief.
The Buffs return to Wilder Park next weekend as they host the Lubbock Christian Chaps in a four-game LSC series beginning on Friday afternoon in Canyon.
