CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes won the final three games of the weekend as they clinched the Lone Star Conference series from the Oklahoma Christian Eagles, 5-3 at Wilder Park in Canyon.
The Eagles got on the board in the top of the second inning on a Hunter Sandifer RBI single to right with one out followed by a Tanner Forbus RBI groundout for the 2-0 lead. WT responded in the bottom of the frame as a
Zac Rackham RBI single to center scored
Tristin Thomas followed by a
Ronan Hella two-run base hit up the middle for the 3-2 advantage.
OC struck again in the top of the third on a Jontae Hennesy sac fly to right field that scored Trey Migl at 3-3. The Buffs tied the game up in the bottom of the frame as Rackham drove in his second run of the game to plate Thomas.
WT would add an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh on a Thomas RBI single down the right field line with two outs to score
Jake Alwine at 5-3.
Riley Kettner picked up the win (6-1) for the Buffs, allowing no runs on just one hit with no walks and three strikeouts in his 4.0 frames.
Bryan Raitz claimed his fourth save, allowing no runs on one hit with a walk and a strikeout in the ninth.
The Buffs hit the road next weekend as they travel to San Antonio, Texas for a four-game series with the league leading St. Mary's Rattlers beginning on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. at Dickson Stadium.
