Buffs Sweep a Saturday Doubleheader from Oklahoma Christian

CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes put up a dozen runs in both games of a Lone Star Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon to claim a pair of wins over the Oklahoma Christian Eagles at Wilder Park in Canyon.
 
The Buffs and Eagles close out their weekend series on Sunday with first pitch of the finale set for Noon.
 
Game 1 – West Texas A&M 12, Oklahoma Christian 6
The Buffs got on the board in the home half of the first inning on a Jacob Police RBI double down the left field line that scored Anthony Picciano for the 1-0 lead. WT added to their lead in the second with four runs, Picciano doubled home Jonluke Hobdy and Daniel Castellanos followed by a Police sac fly and a Timothy Haynes RBI single for the 5-0 lead.
 
WT added to their advantage in the third as Will Franklin scored on an Eagle error followed by a Jake Alwine ground-rule double that scored Picciano for the 7-0 lead. Oklahoma Christian got on the board in the top of the fourth inning with their first run of the game followed by three more in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-4.
 
The Buffs responded in the home half of the fifth on an Alwine RBI single followed by a Police triple down the left field line at 10-4. OC wouldn't go down without a fight with a pair of runs to make it 10-6. The Buffs pushed across insurance runs in the sixth on a Tristin Thomas RBI triple and a Franklin single to left center that scored Thomas at 12-4.
 
Cade Griffin picked up the win (7-0) for the Buffs, allowing four earned runs on eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts in his 5.0 innings of work.
 
Game 2 – West Texas A&M 12, Oklahoma Christian 10
Oklahoma Christian wasted little time getting on the board in the top of the opening frame with four runs highlighted by a Reed Thomas two-run homerun to right center for the 4-0 lead. The Buffs responded in the bottom of the frame as Alwine went the other way for a two-run shot followed by a Luis Reyes RBI double, Haynes would score on a wild pitch followed by a Thomas RBI single for the 5-4 lead.
 
The Eagles tied the game up in the top of the second on a Ruben Castro RBI single to right with two outs to make it 5-5. WT answered in the bottom of the frame with a Haynes RBI groundout for the 6-5 lead. WT added to their lead in the fifth as Haynes started the frame with a solo homer followed by a wild pitch to score Zac Rackham with no outs, Franklin doubled down the left field line to score two followed by an Alwine two-run single for the 12-5 lead.
 
Oklahoma Christian used the long ball to cut into the lead in the sixth on Connor Sanderson and Tanner Forbus solo shots at 12-7. The Eagles wouldn't go down without a fight as a Jaret Liebbe RBI single with one out in the seventh followed by a Sanderson RBI double, an RBI groundout added another run before a groundout ended the game at 12-10.
 
Nick Yeager claimed the win (1-2) on the mound, allowing five earned runs on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts in his 5.0 innings of work. Bryan Raitz earned his third save, allowing one hit over the final 0.2 frames.
