Buffaloes Clinch the LSC Weekend Series at Sul Ross State

CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes won both games of a Saturday Lone Star Conference doubleheader at Kokernot Field to clinch the weekend league series from the Sul Ross State Lobos by a combined score of 26-6.

The Buffs look to complete the sweep on Sunday afternoon as first pitch of the finale is set for Noon in Alpine.

Game 1 – West Texas A&M 19, Sul Ross State 2
West Texas A&M quickly took control of the game with a strong start in the first inning. Anthony Picciano led off with a single and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Jacob Police. Luis Reyes and Jonluke Hobdy added RBI singles, and Will Franklin contributed with a two-run single, aided by a fielding error. The team ended the inning with a 5-1 lead.

In the second inning, Reyes extended the lead with a two-run homer to left field, bringing the score to 7-1. West Texas A&M continued its offensive push in the third. After Picciano was hit by a pitch and stole second, Jake Alwine's two-run home run and Police's solo shot increased the score to 10-1.

The fifth inning saw another surge from the Buffs. With the bases loaded, Daniel Castellanos was hit by a pitch to bring in a run. Reyes walked for another RBI, and Hobdy's single brought home a third. A wild pitch allowed another run, and Franklin's sacrifice fly concluded the five-run inning, making it 15-1.

The sixth inning added to the lead as Police's single and Castellanos's two-run double were key highlights. A groundout RBI by Tristin Thomas capped the inning with the score at 19-1. Sul Ross State managed to add a run in the bottom of the seventh with a solo homer by Garcia. The game concluded with the Buffs securing a decisive 19-2 victory.
