#3 Lady Buffs Sweep a Sunday Doubleheader at UT Dallas

CANYON, Texas – The #3 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M picked up a pair of Lone Star Conference victories on Sunday as they swept a doubleheader from the UT Dallas Comets in Richardson, Texas.

The Lady Buffs return to the diamond on Friday as they travel to Silver City, New Mexico for an LSC doubleheader against Western New Mexico.

Game 1 – West Texas A&M 6, UT Dallas 4
Cadence Colborn put the Lady Buffs on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning with a solo long ball to left field followed later in the frame by a Jordyn De Los Santos bases-clearing double for the 4-0 lead. Trinity Kuntz added to the lead with a sac fly t right in the fourth as Melanie Baldwin tagged up for the 5-0 lead.

De Los Santos drove in her fourth run of the game in the top of the fifth, drawing a bases loaded walk to score Emily Liskai. UT Dallas pushed across three runs in the home half of the frame on a Haley Whitfield two-run homer.

The Comets made things interesting in the bottom of the sixth on a McKenna Holm RBI single followed by a Whitfield sac fly but the Lady Buffs turned a double play followed by a ground ball to stop the threat for the 6-4 win.

Brooke Janning claimed the win (7-1) in the circle, allowing four earned runs on six hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in her 5.0 innings of work. Laci Peskey closed out the final two frames allowing no runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout to claim the save.

Game 2 – West Texas A&M 12, UT Dallas 4 (5 Innings)
The Lady Buffs broke the nightcap open early as they plated four runs in the opening frame highlighted by solo homeruns from De Los Santos and Kuntz. WT would add five more runs in the top of the second inning as they took advantage of UTD control issues with a pair of bases loaded walks for the 9-0 lead.

The Comets got on the board in the home half of the second as Holm and Sarah Olenick both connected on homers to make it 9-3. The Lady Buffs responded in the fourth on an Avery Cannon two-run single that plated Janning and Liskai followed by a Janning RBI groundout in the fifth to extend the lead to 12-4.

Reagan Sucher picked up the win (3-0) for the Lady Buffs, allowing four earned runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts in her four innings of work.
