CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M played in their fifth overtime contest of the season on Thursday evening as the Buffs fell in Lone Star Conference to the Angelo State Rams, 76-68 at the First United Bank Center in Canyon during Herdsmen Legacy Night.

West Texas A&M began the first half with a strong defensive effort, highlighted by three blocks and three steals. Despite these efforts, they faced initial scoring challenges, falling behind early in the half. However, a series of 3-pointers by
Fontaine Williams and
Nicholas Jett helped them close the gap, bringing the score to 15-15 at one point.

The half continued with the Buffs leveraging fast breaks to keep the score competitive, including a layup by
Camden Cowgill. Angelo State managed to pull ahead, capitalizing on turnovers and free throws. The half ended with WT trailing 37-26.

The Buffs started the second half with a 3-pointer from
Brock Mishak, assisted by
Jailyn Sledge, cutting into Angelo State's lead. Williams contributed significantly with multiple successful shots in the paint, aiding the Buffs' efforts to close the gap. By midway through the half, the Buffs had capitalized on turnovers and fast breaks, maintaining a close scoreline.

In the latter part of the second half, the Buffs' defense intensified, as evidenced by multiple steals, including efforts from Mishak, which led to scoring opportunities on the other end. As the clock wound down, both teams exchanged baskets, but the Buffs managed to tie the score at 61 with a jumper from
James Parlow Jr.

Overtime saw the Rams extend their lead with efficient shooting and free throw accuracy. The Buffs struggled to find the basket despite efforts from Williams, who added two free throws to keep the team within striking distance. A late 3-pointer from Jett, assisted by Cowgill, provided a brief spark for the Buffs, but Angelo State capitalized on turnovers and maintained its lead for the 76–68 win.

Williams led with 27 points, converting 11 free throws out of 14 attempts. Mishak added 12 points and recorded five steals, contributing to the defensive effort. Jett scored 12 points, making all four of his 3-point attempts. Parlow Jr. collected nine rebounds and added 10 points to the team's total.

The Buffs close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon as they welcome the UT Permian Basin Falcons to the First United Bank Center with tipoff set for 3:00 p.m. on Senior Day.
