CANYON, Texas – The #5 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M opened their home schedule with a 15-7 run-rule victory on Friday afternoon before falling in the nightcap to the #14 Oklahoma Christian Eagles during Lone Star Conference play at Schaeffer Park in Canyon.
The Lady Buffs return to Schaeffer Park on Sunday afternoon as they host the Cameron Aggies in doubleheader action starting at 1:00 p.m. in Canyon.
Game 1 – West Texas A&M 15, Oklahoma Christian 7 (6 Innings)
The Lady Buffs got on the board in the home half of the second inning as
Trinity Kuntz connected on a three-run homer over the tall wall in left field for the 3-0 lead. OC responded in the top of the third with a pair of runs as Kadence Brewster tripled to the gap in right center to score Sydnee Seat followed by a Danae Lopez RBI single to make it 3-2.
WT added to their lead in the bottom of the third with
Cadence Colborn scoring from third on a wild pitch followed by an
Avery Cannon sac fly to center for the 5-2 lead. The Eagles used the long ball to cut into the lead in the top of the fourth on a Kallie Rupp solo shot to left followed later in the frame by a Seat RBI double and a Brewester two-run double for the 8-6 lead.
Emily Liskai gave the Lady Buffs the lead again in the home half of the fourth with a three-run blast to left center, OC responded in the top of the fifth on a Victoria Brazil RBI double at 8-7. WT broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth as they plated eight runs highlighted by a Kuntz two-run single and a
Jordyn De Los Santos two-run walkoff double for the 15-7 win.
Laci Peskey picked up the decision (6-1) in the circle, allowing one earned run on two hits with one walk in her 2.1 innings of relief.
Game 2 – Oklahoma Christian 11, West Texas A&M 5
The Lady Buffs started off the scoring in the first inning as De Los Santos tripled to right center to plate
Bella Holland followed by an
Abby Howell sac fly for the 2-0 lead. OC tied up the game in the top of the second with a Rupp long ball and a Marti Yaerger RBI base hit.
Kuntz gave the Lady Buffs the lead in the home half of the second with a two-run homer to center field for the 4-2 lead. Oklahoma Christian broke the game open in the top of the fifth inning with six runs on five hits for the 8-4 advantage. WT cut into the lead in the sixth on a Liskai RBI single to center that scored
Brooke Janning before OC added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh for the 11-5 win.
Peskey picked up the loss (6-2) for the Lady Buffs, allowing 11 earned runs on 17 hits with five walks and three strikeouts in the complete game defeat.
