#8 Lady Buffs Never Trail in a 68-61 Win Over UT Dallas

CANYON, Texas – The #8 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M led wire-to-wire on Thursday night to pick up an 68-61 Lone Star Conference victory over the UT Dallas Comets at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas.
 
WT started strong in the first quarter, establishing an early lead with effective scoring in the paint. Taylor Haggan contributed early with a layup and jumper, both assisted by Randi Harding, who also added a three-pointer near the end of the quarter. Kenadee Winfrey's three-pointer helped extend the lead to 8-0, capitalizing on turnovers by UTD.
 
The Lady Buffs began the second quarter by extending its lead with a series of successful plays, highlighted by Claire Graham's three-pointer assisted by Kyla Kane, bringing the score to 22–14. The Lady Buffs continued to control the paint, with Taytum Bell contributing to the scoring drive with a layup and a tip-in, enhancing the home team's advantage. Despite turnovers, the Buffs maintained their lead by capitalizing on fast breaks and defensive stops. Chloe Callahan's fast-break layup assisted by Graham helped secure a 31–22 lead by the close of the quarter, holding Texas-Dallas to a 14-point second quarter.
 
WT established momentum early in the third quarter with a strong defensive effort, highlighted by Haggan's steal leading to a fast-break layup by Harding. The home team capitalized on turnovers, with Winfrey contributing a layup following another quick transition. Sustaining pressure, the Lady Buffs extended their lead through efficient scoring in the paint and a crucial 3-pointer by Henley West in the closing seconds.
 
The Lady Buffs secured a strong finish in the fourth quarter with consistent scoring and key defensive stops. Despite UTD's early momentum with a 3-pointer by Clara Paynter, WT responded effectively, maintaining its lead with critical free throws and timely baskets. Haggan contributed a vital layup and free throw at 6:06, extending the margin. Texas-Dallas attempted a late comeback, narrowing the gap with a series of successful shots, including a 3-pointer by Umi Otsuka. However, the Lady Buffs' defense held firm, with Haggan and West making crucial blocks and rebounds. Kane's steady performance at the free-throw line and a final fast-break layup by Graham at 00:03 sealed the win, 68-61.
 
Randi Harding scored 14 points and recorded three rebounds. Taylor Haggan posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while also adding three steals. Kyla Kane collected 10 rebounds and contributed eight points. Kenadee Winfrey added seven points and registered four assists. Henley West made an impact defensively with three blocks.
 
The Lady Buffs return to the court next Thursday night as they begin their final road trip of the regular season at Texas A&M-Kingsville with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. at the Steinke Center.
