CANYON, Texas – The #8 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M picked up two more run-rule victories on Sunday afternoon to remain unbeaten as they opened the South Central Regional Crossover in Los Lunas, New Mexico with six victories over the last three days.
The Lady Buffs travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee next weekend to take part in the Chattanooga Invitational with matchups against West Florida, Montevallo, McKendree, Palm Beach Atlantic, UAH and Lee at Warner Park.
West Texas A&M 8, Southwestern Oklahoma State 0 (5 Innings)
WT secured a decisive victory over Southwestern Okla., starting strong with a commanding first inning.
Cadence Colborn launched a three-run homer to left center, marking her first of the season, and
Emily Liskai followed with a solo homer, giving the Lady Buffs an early 4-0 lead.
In the third inning, Liskai continued her offensive contribution with an RBI double, increasing the lead to 5-0. The fourth inning saw
Jordyn De Los Santos drive in
Avery Cannon with a single to center field, pushing the score to 6-0.
WT added another run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly by
Trinity Kuntz, scoring Janning. The sixth inning featured another RBI from De Los Santos as she singled up the middle, bringing in
Bella Holland, which capped the scoring at 8-0.
Brooke Janning pitched a complete game, securing a shutout victory. She allowed only three hits and one walk while striking out 10 batters, showcasing her ability to command the strike zone. Janning's performance was instrumental in her third consecutive win, as she did not surrender any runs throughout her outing.
West Texas A&M 17, Adams State 0 (5 Innings)
Abby Howell kickstarted the offense with a double, followed by Janning's two-RBI single, bringing two runs home. Kuntz and Cannon each contributed with RBI singles, extending the lead to 6-0 by the end of the inning.
In the second inning, Howell doubled again and was brought home by Colborn's RBI single. The scoring continued as Liskai's groundout and
Heaven Moreno's groundout each drove in a run, increasing the lead to 9-0.
The third inning saw WT capitalize on fielding errors by Adams State, adding three more runs. Janning reached on an error that allowed two runs to score, and
Emilee Bridges singled in another, bringing the score to 12-0.
WT's offense persisted in the fourth inning, beginning with
Maddie Hight's RBI fielder's choice and a subsequent RBI double by Janning. Aggressive base running added another run, and Bridges capped the inning with a two-RBI double, pushing the lead to 17-0.
Laci Peskey pitched effectively for the Buffs, throwing 2 1/3 innings with four strikeouts, allowing just two hits and no runs.
Tessia Guzman provided solid relief, pitching one inning, striking out one, and conceding two hits without allowing a run.
Ava Sharp closed the game with a perfect inning, facing three batters and not allowing any hits or runs. The combined efforts of the pitchers resulted in a shutout performance against Adams State.
