CANYON, Texas – The #8 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M suffered a walk-off defeat on Friday afternoon before bouncing back with a win to conclude the opening day of the Chattanooga Invitational at Warner Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The Lady Buffs return to the diamond on Saturday as they take on McKendree and Palm Beach Atlantic.

West Florida 3, West Texas A&M 2
West Texas A&M took an early lead in the first inning when
Jordyn De Los Santos scored after singling and advancing on a
Cadence Colborn single. De Los Santos stole home, giving the Lady Buffs a 1–0 advantage.

In the third inning,
Bella Holland reached first on a fielder's choice and then scored on a triple by De Los Santos, widening the lead to 2–0. West Florida managed two hits in their half but did not score, maintaining the Lady Buffs' lead at 2–0 after three innings.

The remaining innings saw both teams struggle to capitalize on offensive opportunities, with WT getting runners on base but unable to extend their lead. In the seventh inning, West Florida mounted a comeback, starting with a single from Gabrielle Luna. They scored three runs in the inning, capped by a two-RBI single from Hannah Harper, overtaking the Lady Buffs to clinch a 3–2 victory.

Brooke Janning delivered a complete game, pitching 6.2 innings for WT. She allowed 10 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 5 batters and not issuing any walks.

West Texas A&M 6, Montevallo 4
WT seized control with a five-run frame in the top of the fourth. The Lady Buffs initiated the scoring when
Briley Daniels crossed the plate due to a single from
Trinity Kuntz.
Heaven Moreno capitalized on a wild pitch to score, expanding the lead.
Bella Holland's aggressive baserunning resulted in another run, and a single from
Melanie Baldwin drove in Holland for the fourth run of the inning.

In the seventh inning, Montevallo staged a late rally with a grand slam by Bentlee Stiner to narrow the gap. Despite this, the Lady Buffs maintained their lead, concluding the game with a 6-4 victory.

Laci Peskey delivered a strong performance on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings without allowing a run and conceding only four hits while striking out four batters. Peskey's control was evident, as she issued just one walk and threw 65 strikes among her 99 pitches.
