RICHARDSON, TEXAS . – No. 4 West Texas A&M Men's Cross Country freshman runner
Meshack Keter was named Lone Star Conference (LSC) Runner and Freshman of the Week for the second time this season as announced by the organization Thursday morning. Keter won the Louisville Classic with a PR time.
Through the first 2.1k of the race, Keter found himself in second place as he was a tenth of a second behind Pierre Chauveau of Lee for first. At the 3.9k split, Keter jumped into the lead with two-tenths of a second ahead of second place. By the 6k split, the Eldoret, Kenya native had grown his lead to 15 seconds. Keter held his lead the rest of the way and comfortably won the meet by nine seconds (23:33.4) in a PR time.
This was the second time that the freshman has swept the weekly LSC men's awards with the first coming on September 23. He is the first Buff to win LSC Runner of the Week twice in a season since William Amponsah did so in 2023. Keter is the first freshman to win Freshman of the Week twice in a season since Gustavo Posada in 2021.
The Eldoret, Kenya native would also be named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
Keter and the rest of the No. 4 Buffs will be back in action on Friday, October 16 as they compete in the Old Glory Gallop in Dallas, Texas.
