Lady Buffs Win Streak Snaps with 2-0 Loss to Texas A&M International- October 21, 2026
TAMIU scored two goals in the first five minutes as they instantly took a 2-0 lead. The Lady Buffs settled in and fired four shots in the next 10 minutes with Michelle Velasco accounting for two of them. Defensively, they would limit the Dustdevils the rest of the half to just two shots to stay within striking distance. WT would go into the half trailing 2-0.

Out of the break, the Lady Buffs were energized and applied continuous pressure to spark the offense. Through the first 20 minutes of the second half, WT created a plethora of scoring chances off shots and crossing passes with eight shots and two shots on goal. In the 55th minute, Jade Martinez nearly put West Texas A&M on the board but her shot would get saved on a great chance. Despite the offensive juice, could not find their first goal to start the comeback. They carried over their defense into the second half as they limited TAMIU to three shots in the second half as they also controlled possession. The Lady Buffs were unable to find a goal in the game as they ultimately fell 2-0 to the Dustdevils.

Out of halftime, it was the Comets who struck first with a goal following a free kick just outside the box in the 56th minute. WT was able to generate offensive opportunities the rest of the way with three corner kicks and three shots but could not find the game-tying goal. The Lady Buffs would ultimately fall 1-0 to UTD.

She is the third player to record multiple hat tricks in a season in the game-by-game era as she joined All-Americans Maria-Frances Serrant (2022) and Hannah Kelley-Lusk (2021). The Harker Heights, Texas native became the fifth player in program history with multiple hat tricks in a career. Sims was named D2CIDA National Player of the Week and LSC Offensive Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks. She has scored all 18 of her points over the past eight games and is tied for seventh in the conference in scoring.

2. Midwestern State- 32 points

9. St. Edward's- 18 points
10. St. Mary's- 17 points
11. Texas A&M International- 12 points

14. Eastern New Mexico- 4 points
15. UT Permian Basin- 3 points

All LSC games this week will be played on Tuesday.

UT Dallas will play UT Tyler at 6:00 p.m.
Lubbock Christian plays St. Mary's at 6:00 p.m.
St. Edward's will play Sul Ross State at 2:00 p.m.

With a win against Oklahoma Christian, the Lady Buffs secure a playoff spot while avoiding the play-in game. WT cannot mathematically host a quarterfinal game at The Pitch as they cannot climb higher than their current seeding. With a tie or loss, there is a scenario where West Texas A&M is out of the playoffs entirely assuming the three teams below them all win. In the event where Lubbock Christian ties and the Lady Buffs lose, WT would have the second tiebreaker as they beat Midwestern State UT Dallas and St. Edward's have the first tiebreaker with head-to-head wins over WT. The Lady Buffs also have the tiebreaker over St. Mary's with their head-to-head win assuming St. Mary's wins and WT loses. In that scenario where St. Mary's wins, West Texas A&M would be in the playoffs no matter their result or other results.

The LSC tiebreakers are as follows
  1.  Head-to-head competition
  2. Record against conference opponents in descending order starting with the highest seeded team
  3. Goal differential in Conference games (limit +/- 4 in any one game)
  4. Goals scored in Conference games (limit +/- 4 in any one game)
  5. Goals against in Conference games
  6. Coin flip
