CANYON, Texas – The #20 West Texas A&M Buffaloes played their second overtime contest in less than a week on Thursday night, coming away with a big 84-82 Lone Star Conference victory over the #17 Hilltoppers of St. Edward's at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.

West Texas A&M opened the first half by establishing an early pace, scoring through a combination of inside and outside shots. The team effectively capitalized on second-chance opportunities and free throws, maintaining offensive rhythm. Notably, Jaden Holt and his teammates were proficient from beyond the arc, converting 8 of 18 three-point attempts, and secured 13 of 14 free throws.

As the half progressed, the Buffs managed to create and protect a lead amid several ties and lead changes, thanks to strong defensive rebounding and efficient ball movement, evidenced by their 8 assists. The home team ended the half with a 47-38 advantage over St. Edward's, marking a solid performance to close the first 20 minutes.

WT opened the second half with a strong start, securing early momentum through Fontaine Williams's three-pointer and a fast-break jumper from Zach Brown. The team continued to maintain a lead with contributions from Brock Mishak, including a defensive rebound and a jumper, pushing the home team's score to 57-46.

St. Edward's responded with a series of scoring plays, narrowing the margin late in the half. Despite this, the Buffs managed to keep their composure, highlighted by key baskets from Williams and Mishak, and maintained a narrow edge throughout the closing minutes. The half concluded with both teams tied at 74, setting the stage for a competitive finish.

The Buffs captured momentum early in the extra time with Camden Cowgill's fast-break 3-pointer assisted by Mishak, giving them a 77-74 lead. Despite Blake Nielsen's back-to-back jumpers for St. Edward's, Mishak responded by converting both free throws to regain the lead at 79-78.

As the extra time progressed, Brown's steal and subsequent fast-break layup extended the lead to 83-80. Williams secured the victory by hitting a crucial free throw with just five seconds remaining.
