#8 Lady Buffs Start 2026 with a Big LSC Road Victory, 84-50

CANYON, Texas – The #8 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M started the new year in style on Friday night, running their win streak to 12 games with a 84-50 Lone Star Conference road victory over the Western New Mexico Mustangs at Drag's Court in Silver City, New Mexico.
 
West Texas A&M initiated the game with strong defensive pressure, resulting in three steals and two blocks during the first quarter. Taylor Haggan led an offensive surge with two layups, contributing significantly to the team's early momentum. Henley West added a key assist to Claire Graham's three-pointer, extending the lead at 6:02.
 
The team capitalized on Western New Mexico's turnovers and maintained control through efficient shooting, with Kenadee Winfrey and Randi Harding adding crucial points. The Lady Buffs closed the quarter by outscoring the home team, 21-11, establishing a solid lead going into the next quarter.
 
WT extended their momentum in the second quarter, opening with strong defensive rebounding and efficient shooting. Henley West's layup at 7:02 initiated a scoring run that included a jumper from Taylor Haggan and a 3-pointer from Kenadee Winfrey, pushing the score to 28–11. The Lady Buffs' defense limited WNMU to four field goals, maintaining pressure throughout the quarter.
 
The visitors continued to capitalize on turnovers and defensive rebounds, further extending their lead. Winfrey's consecutive 3-pointers and a late layup by West solidified their advantage. The quarter closed with the Lady Buffs leading 42–23, as Western New Mexico managed a last-second 3-pointer to narrow the gap slightly.
 
The third quarter began with WT capitalizing on defensive plays, including a key steal by Karley Motschenbacher leading to a jumper by Taylor Haggan at 9:10, extending their lead. The visitors maintained pressure, with Henley West contributing a series of successful drives, including a fastbreak layup at 5:57, assisted by Motschenbacher. Chloe Callahan furthered the momentum with a three-pointer at 1:20, assisted by Brooklyn Scurry, maintaining the scoring advantage.

Henley West led the Lady Buffs with 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting and added two blocks. Taylor Haggan contributed 14 points while collecting seven rebounds. Kenadee Winfrey scored 12 points, hitting four 3-pointers, and recorded two steals. Karley Motschenbacher collected seven rebounds and tallied five steals.
 
The Lady Buffs conclude their weekend road trip on Sunday afternoon as they take on the Sul Ross State Lobos with tipoff set for 1:00 p.m. at the Gallego Center in Alpine.
