Harding Reaches 1,000 Points in an 80-62 Win over St. Mary’s

CANYON, Texas – The #7 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M ran their win streak to 15 games on Saturday afternoon as senior guard Randi Harding surpassed the 1,000-career point plateau in an 80-62 Lone Star Conference victory over the St. Mary's Rattlers at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.
 
The first quarter saw WT initiating efforts to find their rhythm early, with Taylor Haggan scoring a jumper at 6:20 to narrow the gap after St. Mary's took an initial lead. Randi Harding contributed with assists and successful free throws at 4:12, maintaining pressure on the visitors. Henley West added to the scoreboard with a layup at 2:54, closing in on St. Mary's lead. Despite St. Mary's strong start with multiple 3-pointers, the Lady Buffs managed to keep the contest tight, closing the quarter trailing 17-13.
 
West Texas A&M opened the second quarter with a quick 3-pointer from Harding, assisted by Claire Graham, setting the tone for a competitive period. Haggan contributed under the basket with a key tip-in following her own missed layup, maintaining pressure in the paint. They capitalized on free-throw opportunities, converting all seven attempts, which was crucial in a tightly contested period.
 
Despite St. Mary's gaining a brief lead with back-to-back 3-pointers, the Lady Buffs responded with a persistent defensive effort, resulting in three steals. Karley Motschenbacher's critical 3-pointer and subsequent free throws in the closing seconds allowed the Lady Buffs to edge ahead, concluding the quarter with a 34–33 advantage.
 
WT took control in the third quarter with a strong defensive effort, forcing six turnovers and converting them into points. The home team capitalized on fast breaks, with Haggan scoring a layup to extend their lead. Harding and Kyla Kane contributed significantly, with Kane scoring both inside and from mid-range.
 
The Lady Buffs' defense limited St. Mary's to just one field goal, while West's back-to-back 3-pointers widened the gap. The quarter closed with the Lady Buffs leading 56-38, maintaining a commanding advantage heading into the final quarter.
 
WT started the fourth quarter with a fast break 3-pointer by Kane, assisted by Harding, setting a strong tone early. Zoey McBroom followed with another 3-pointer, extending the lead. The team capitalized on points in the paint, outscoring St. Mary's 12–6 in this area during the period.
 
Haggan and Chloe Callahan contributed key baskets, with Callahan hitting two crucial 3-pointers to maintain the advantage. Despite St. Mary's efforts, including a series of 3-pointers, the home team maintained control. The quarter ended with Hollie Stalder adding a layup, closing the game with the Lady Buffs securing an 80–62 victory.
 
Haggan scored 16 points and collected seven rebounds, also contributing three steals. Harding added 15 points and recorded four assists, converting all seven free-throw attempts. Kane finished with 13 points and added five rebounds. West contributed 12 points, including two 3-pointers, and blocked one shot.
 
The Lady Buffs make the short trip down Interstate 27 on Thursday night as they battle the #12 Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps at the Rip Griffin Center with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. in Lubbock.
