CANYON, Texas – The #10 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M return to the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" this weekend for non-conference LSC crossover action as they take on UT Tyler on Thursday night followed by a showdown with #13 Angelo State on Saturday afternoon.
 
UT TYLER
The Patriots enter the weekend with an overall record of 3-5 as they went 2-2 during the TWU Volleyfest in Denton with wins over Southern New Hampshire and Arkansas-Monticello while falling to the host Pioneers and Arkansas Tech. UTT opened their season hosting the Patriot Classic as they topped Mississippi College while falling to then #5 Ferris State, #7 Central Oklahoma and Ouachita Baptist.
 
Lyndsay Mashe enters her tenth year as the head coach of UT Tyler women's volleyball in 2025 and has been at the helm for NCAA Division II National Tournament Appearances in the program's first four seasons of NCAA Division II postseason eligibility.
 
Autumn Perry leads the way offensively for the Patriots as the junior outside from Wylie, Texas has registered 89 kills on 231 swings with 28 errors for an attack percentage of .264 to go along with two assists, 31 digs and 15 blocks for the Nicholls State transfer. 
 
A LOOK AT THE SERIES
Thursday evening marks the 13th all-time meeting between the Lady Buffs and Patriots in a series that dates back to 2019. WT holds an 9-3 advantage in the series as the Lady Buffs have won the past seven meeting. WT took both meetings from UT Tyler last season including a sweep in the Regional Quarterfinals in San Angelo.
 
ANGELO STATE
The #13 Belles of Angelo State enter the weekend with an overall record of 6-3 as they played in the Colorado Premier Challenge last weekend in Denver. Angelo State started the Premier with losses to Missouri Western and then #11 Concordia-St. Paul before ending the event with wins over Regis and #21 Bentley.
 
Chuck Waddington is now in his 18th season at the helm of the ASU volleyball program, holding an overall record of 416-103 during his time in San Angelo with 12 NCAA Tournament Trips including a South Central Regional Championship in 2016 and 2024.
 
Madi Parrish leads the way offensively for the Belles as the LSC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year has registered 117 kills on 299 swings with 37 attack errors for an attack percentage of .268 to go along with four assists, 11 aces, 73 digs and 11 blocks. The junior from Saginaw, Texas was named the AVCA National Player of the Week following the opening weekend of the season.
 
A LOOK AT THE SERIES
The Lady Buffs and Belles renew one of the top rivalries in Division II volleyball on Saturday afternoon, marking the 96th all-time meeting in a series that dates back to 1980. WT is 65-30 against Angelo State, the Belles are 8-34 all-time inside of the WTAMU Fieldhouse. Last year saw the Lady Buffs win a pair of regular season meetings before the Belles topped WT in four sets during the LSC Championship match in Canyon.
 
WELCOME TO THE BOX
West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as "The Box," is home to 22 Lone Star Conference Championships, 16 Regional Titles and four NCAA Division II National Championships. 
 
The Box boasts one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 558-85 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86.7%.
 
LSC PRESEASON DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Senior middle blocker Taytum Stow was named the 2025 Lone Star Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year announced on Monday, August 25th. The Hereford product ed the league with 138 blocks (1.27 per set) on her way to a second LSC Defensive Player of the Year Award (also 2022). Stow was also third in the LSC with a .364 hitting percentage and earned honorable mention All-American status.
 
THE GAMBLE ERA BEGINS
Three-time National Champion and NJCAA Hall of Famer Terry Gamble was named the 17th head coach in Lady Buff Volleyball history on February 4, 2025. Gamble has compiled a record of 1,107-349 (.759) as he was just the third head coach in NJCAA history to reach 1,000 career wins on October 15, 2024.
 
Gamble came to Canyon following seven seasons at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas. Gamble was named the Regional Coach of the Year for the third time, leading Blinn College to their fifth straight NJCAA National Tournament. He was inducted into the NJCAA Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2007 after winning three NJCAA volleyball championships (2000, 2004, 2006) and three NJCAA Coach of the Year awards.
 
LADY BUFFS IN THE AVCA POLL
The Lady Buffs are ranked 10th in the newest edition of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Top-25 Poll announced on Monday afternoon. It marks the 319th time since 1986 that the Lady Buffs appear in the poll, the sixth most in Division II history. WT has sat atop of the poll 28 different times including twice during the 2023 campaign.
