CANYON, Texas – The voice of West Texas A&M broadcasting Lucas Kinsey has been named the 2025 recipient of the Jake Trussell Award for the league's outstanding broadcaster announced on Thursday afternoon during the annual LSC Football Media Day at McKinney ISD Stadium and Convention Center in McKinney, Texas.

Kinsey earned the honor for the second time (2022, 2025). Lone Star Conference correspondent Nick Eatman was named the winner of the Kirk Hill Award for the second time (2010, 2025) which given each season to the league's top sportswriter.

Kinsey's passion for student-athletes and collegiate athletics is evident in each broadcast as the Oklahoma native and WT alumni serves as the broadcasting voice for volleyball, football, basketball and softball while also spending time in the booth at soccer, baseball and track. Lucas along with broadcast partners Kent Johnson and Brice Sheets are advocates for WT student-athletes as well as the entire Lone Star Conference and NCAA Division II.

Kinsey's tireless work ethic and preparation along with the WT ThunderVision crew for broadcasts on FloCollege is unmatched. He goes above and beyond finding information and interesting storylines from both teams. The time and effort put into preparation for events like the LSC Volleyball Championships and the NCAA South Central Region Softball Championships this past season is evident in his broadcasts. He is a true fan of collegiate student-athletes and their stories.

The Lone Star Conference annually acknowledges the contributions of a sportscaster and sportswriter who has covered the Conference. The awards are selected by the LSC sports information directors each spring. The Kirk Hill Award for Sportswriter of the Year is named in honor of the late Kirk Hill of the Houston Post who won the first award in 1963. The Jake Trussell Award for Sportscaster of the Year is in memory of the late Jake Trussell of Kingsville who broadcast contests for Texas A&M-Kingsville.
