No. 1 Lady Buffs Travel to Lubbock Christian on Friday

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M softball finishes out the 2025 season on the road with a first stop in Lubbock against the Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps. The two LSC rivals are scheduled to begin their doubleheader at 2 p.m. at Maner Park in Lubbock with game two to follow. The games were originally scheduled for 4 and 6 p.m., but the forecast of lightning in the area forced an early start time for game one. 
 
GAME COVERAGE
The Athletic Communications Department from Lubbock Christian will provide live stats and a pay-per-view web stream. Fans will need to purchase a monthly ($19.99) or annual ($107.88) subscription with FloSports, the official streaming provider of the Lone Star Conference. The subscription allows fans access to any content available on FloSports.
 
A LOOK AT THE #1 LADY BUFFS
West Texas A&M softball completed its regular season home schedule with a pair of wins, defeating Sul Ross State in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader. The Lady Buffs dominated the Lobos in game one with a 12-0 run-rule victory followed by a 5-0 shutout in game two. With the pair of wins, WT improves to 48-2 on the season and 38-2 in Lone Star Conference play. The doubleheader sweep also secures the LSC West Division title for the Lady Buffs and a spot in the Lone Star Conference Tournament on May 1-3.
 
The Lady Buffs feature another high-octane lineup that ranks inside the top 10 for Division II for almost every offensive category including doubles, triples, and walks. WT leads the country in batting average, hits, home runs, on-base percentage, RBIs, runs, scoring, and slugging percentage.
 
Junior Emilee Boyer's .504 batting average ranks second in the country and leads the team where 14 different players have a .300 batting average or higher. Boyer's 83 RBIs and 1.038 slugging percentage lead Division II while her 19 home runs rank second. Lauren Granger's 149 total bases hold the national lead while her seven triples rank eighth and 74 hits rank 10th nationally.
 
In the circle, WT has posted a 1.81 ERA with 355 strikeouts and 81 earned runs in 313 innings. All four WT pitchers have reached double-digit strikeouts including Boyer with 197, Heidi Vortherms with 110, Kendall Selitzky with 38, and Ashley Mandell with 10. The Lady Buffs' 7.88 strikeouts per seven innings ranks third while the 1.81 ERA ranks ninth in the country.
 
Head Coach Michael Mook is in his sixth season at WT, registering a 234-55 (.810) record in that time. For his career, Mook holds 388-116 record in 10 seasons for an overall winning percentage of .770.
 
SCOUTING LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN
The Lady Chaps host the Lady Buffs following a 4-0 road trip in New Mexico. After sweeping Western New Mexico, LCU swept Eastern New Mexico with 17-10 and 4-3 wins. In game one against the Greyhounds, seven runs in the top of the seventh propelled the Lady Chaps to victory. Game two saw LCU use a four-run fifth inning to pull ahead of ENMU in a 4-3 decision.
 
Kendra Levesque leads the LCU offense as the graduate student holds a .397 batting average with a 1.225 OPS, .756 slugging percentage, and .469 on-base percentage. The Albuquerque native leads the team with 11 home runs, 21 doubles and 47 RBIs while scoring 36 runs. Baylea Myers follows with a .394 batting average, 63 hits, 43 runs, and 42 RBI.
 
As a pitching staff, the Lady Chaps hold a 3.55 ERA in 321.0 innings of work. During that time, opponents are hitting .267 while hitting 43 doubles, seven triples, and 32 home runs while striking out 255 times. Kendall Ward leads the team with a 2.14 ERA on 18 appearances and one start with a complete game, five saves, and 21 strikeouts. Toeni Lamb leads the primary starters with a 3.58 ERA on 23 appearances and 21 starts with 104 strikeouts to 36 walks in 107.2 innings of work.
 
Daren Hays is in his 15th season as the head coach of the Lubbock Christian program and 15th overall. Hays holds a 581-214 (.731) record for hirs career with a matching record at the helm of the Lady Chaps. 
 
THE SERIES
WT leads the all-time series with Lubbock Christian with a 24-11 record with a 11-7 record in Lubbock. The Lady Buffs are 11-2 against the Lady Chaps under Michael Mook. LCU held the WT offense in check earlier this season with the Lady Buffs winning 2-0 and 4-2 in Canyon on March 23. In the 2024 season, WT won the series with LCU two games to one. The Lady Chaps stunned the top-ranked Lady Buffs in game one 8-7 before WT posted a 9-1 victory in six innings and a 6-2 win in the series finale.

NCAA REGIONAL RANKINGS
The Lady Buffs ranked second in this week's NCAA South Central Region Rankings as announced by the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis on Wednesday. The NCAA will release an additional ranking ahead on April 30.
 
UT Tyler topped the rankings followed by West Texas A&M in second and Angelo State in third. Oklahoma Christian ranked fourth with Colorado Mesa, MSU Denver, Colorado Christian and Lubbock Christian following. Cameron and St. Edward's occupy the ninth and 10th spots, respectively.
 
NFCA RANKINGS 
WT received all 16 first-place votes to gather 400 points and the No. 1 ranking for the third week with Francis Marion taking the No. 2 spot once again with 384 points. UT Tyler moved up a spot with 368 points followed by Tampa (347) and Central Oklahoma (325) to round out the top five. The sixth through ninth spots saw no change with Auburn Montgomery (324), Angelo State (311), North Georgia (286), and Southern Arkansas (277) holding still. Western Washington rejoined the top 10 with 214 points.
 
The South Central region is represented by four teams with WT leading the way at No. 1. UT Tyler (3rd), Angelo State (7th), and Oklahoma Christian (16th) earned spots in the rankings.
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Reigning National Champion UT Tyler took the top spot in the poll with 34 first-place votes and 672 points followed by WT with eight first-place votes and 642 points. Angelo State grabbed the final first-place vote for 590 points with Oklahoma Christian following at 528 points. Lubbock Christian and St. Mary's tied for fifth in the poll with each school totaling 483 points. Texas Woman's (382), Texas A&M-Kingsville (372), Cameron (348), and Eastern New Mexico (315) occupy the seventh through 10th spots, respectively. St. Edward's (293), Texas A&M International (215), Midwestern State (214), UT Permian Basin (97), and Sul Ross State (72) round out the poll.

WT closes out the regular season with a top 10 matchup with rival and No. 7-ranked Angelo State on Sunday, April 27. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. in San Angelo.
