CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M softball faces longtime Lone Star Conference foe Midwestern State on Thursday, April 3 at 4 p.m. The doubleheader in Canyon is the first of two meetings with the Mustangs this week.

The Athletic Communications Department from West Texas A&M will provide live stats and a pay-per-view web stream. A LOOK AT THE #2 LADY BUFFS
The West Texas A&M softball team proved why it has one of the top offenses in Division II on Sunday in a doubleheader sweep of Western New Mexico. The Lady Buffs connected on eight long balls for the day against the Mustangs in wins of 25-2 and 11-2, both in six innings. With the sweep, WT improves to 26-2 in Lone Star Conference play and 36-2 overall on the season. Western New Mexico falls to 12-25 on the year with a 9-19 mark in LSC action.
The Lady Buffs feature another high-octane lineup that ranks inside the top 10 for Division II for almost every offensive category including batting average, doubles, on-base percentage, and triples. WT leads the country in hits, home runs, RBIs, runs, scoring, and slugging percentage.
Junior
Emilee Boyer's .491 batting average leads the team where 13 different players have a .300 batting average or higher. Boyer's 15 home runs and 61 RBIs lead Division II while her 1.000 slugging percentage ranks second.
Lauren Granger's 120 total bases hold the national lead while her seven triples rank third nationally.
In the circle, WT has posted a 1.89 ERA with 249 strikeouts and 62 earned runs in 230 innings. Boyer and Vortherms have over 80 strikeouts each on the season as
Kendall Selitzky also has double digits (28) on the season.
Head Coach
Michael Mook is in his sixth season at WT, registering a 222-55 (.801) record in that time. For his career, Mook holds 376-116 record in 10 seasons for an overall winning percentage of .764.
SCOUTING MIDWESTERN STATE
The Mustangs played their way to a doubleheader split with Eastern New Mexico. Midwestern State dropped the first game to the Greyhounds 3-1 before taking game two 8-6 in Portales. Entering Thursday, the Mustangs hold a 14-23 overall and 11-17 LSC record on the season.
Myranda Jimenez leads the Midwestern State offense as the sophomore holds a .375 batting average with a 1.054 OPS, .583 slugging percentage, and .471 on-base percentage. The Cathedral City, Calif. native has 27 hits, 16 runs, nine extra-base hits, and 14 RBI. Sydney Linn follows with a .372 batting average, 29 hits, 18 runs, and 10 RBI.
As a pitching staff, the Mustangs hold a 7.15 ERA in 176.1 innings of work. During that time, opponents are hitting .341 while hitting 44 doubles, three triples, and 16 home runs while striking out 98 times. Addison Lindemann leads the team with a 5.80 ERA on 18 appearances and 12 starts with five complete games, one shutout, a save, and 46 strikeouts. Kayleigh Bowers follows with a 5.89 ERA on 16 appearances and 12 starts with four complete games and 33 strikeouts.
Brittanie Talley is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Midwestern State program and fourth overall. Talley holds a 49-135 (.266) record for her career with a matching record at the helm of the Mustangs.
THE SERIES
WT leads the all-time series with Midwestern State with a 38-22 record with a 20-5 record in Canyon. The Lady Buffs are 10-0 against the Mustangs under
Michael Mook. In the 2024 season, WT swept Midwestern State in Wichita Falls. The Lady Buffs dominated the first game, 20-1 in five innings, before posting a 10-1 victory in five innings and an 8-3 win to sweep the Mustangs.

NFCA RANKINGS
Tampa took over the top spot with 400 points as the Spartans gathered all 16 first-place votes. WT moved into the No. 2 spot with 384 points followed by UT Tyler with 365. Francis Marion (355) and Auburn Montgomery (332) remained in the fourth and fifth spots, respectively. Central Oklahoma (314), Angelo State (309), North Georgia (280), East Stroudsburg (272), and Harding (262) finish out the top 10.
The South Central region is represented by four teams with WT leading the way at No. 2. UT Tyler (3
rd), Angelo State (7
th), and Oklahoma Christian (19
th) earned spots in the rankings.
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Reigning National Champion UT Tyler took the top spot in the poll with 34 first-place votes and 672 points followed by WT with eight first-place votes and 642 points. Angelo State grabbed the final first-place vote for 590 points with Oklahoma Christian following at 528 points. Lubbock Christian and St. Mary's tied for fifth in the poll with each school totaling 483 points. Texas Woman's (382), Texas A&M-Kingsville (372), Cameron (348), and Eastern New Mexico (315) occupy the seventh through 10
th spots, respectively. St. Edward's (293), Texas A&M International (215), Midwestern State (214), UT Permian Basin (97), and Sul Ross State (72) round out the poll.
