CANYON, Texas – The #23 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M dropped both games of a Lone Star Conference doubleheader at Irwin Field against the #7 UT Tyler Patriots on Sunday afternoon.

The teams close out the LSC series on Monday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for Noon at Irwin Field.

GAME ONE
The Patriots got on the board in the home half of the first inning as Justin Williams doubled to the gap in right center with two outs followed by an Ethan Menard single to left and a Drew Schmidt RBI bunt single for the 1-0 lead.

Glenn Noronha tied up the game in the top of the third frame as the senior jumped on an inside fastball and took it deep over the left field wall with one out to make it 1-1. UT Tyler responded with a solo shot of their own in the bottom of the frame by Connor Clark for the 2-1 lead.

UT Tyler added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Schmidt RBI single thru the left side with the bases loaded and no outs for the 3-1 lead. The Patriots added a pair of insurance runs in the home half of the sixth as Williams doubled to left center with two outs to make it 5-1.

Nathan Scott picked up the loss (2-1) for the Buffs, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts in his 4.0 innings of work.

GAME TWO
The Buffs jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap as
Kory Schmidt connected on a leadoff solo homerun to right field in the second inning for a 1-0 advantage. The Patriots used the long ball to take the lead in the bottom of the third inning as Williams connected on a two-run shot to center field for the 2-1 lead.

The Buffs tied the game in the top of the fourth inning as
Seth Ochoa scored from first base with two outs on an
Elijah Batista single to center on a bobbled play in the outfield to make it 2-2. WT retook the lead in the top of the fifth inning on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and two outs that scored
Rodric Black for the 3-2 lead.

UT Tyler immediately responded in the bottom of the fifth as Bryce Jewell lifted the first pitch of the frame over the wall in left center to make it 3-3. WT responded in the top of the sixth on a
Jovan Camacho two-run single up the middle with the bases loaded for the 5-3 lead.

The Patriots would bounce back in the bottom of the frame as Bo Willis doubled down the left field line followed by a Tanner Hornback RBI single with one out, the Patriots would tie the game on an errant WT throw on a potential double play grounder at 5-5.

UT Tyler would end the game in the bottom of the seventh inning on an Menard RBI double to center field that plated Connor Clark for the 6-5 win.

Riley Kettner picked up the loss (0-1) for the Buffs, allowing one earned run on one hit with one walk and a strikeout in his 1.0 innings of relief.
