CANYON, Texas – The #25 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M dropped a pair of Lone Star Conference contests to the St. Mary's Rattlers at Wilder Park in Canyon, Texas.
The Buffs close out the weekend series against St. Mary's tomorrow afternoon with first pitch of the finale set for 1:00 p.m. in Canyon.
GAME ONE
The Rattlers used the long ball to jump out to an early lead in the first frame as Dillon Lopez lifted a two-run shot to left center for the 2-0 lead.
Dylan Fesperman answered with a homer of his own in the bottom of the frame, a three-run shot to right center to make it 3-2.
WT added to their lead in the bottom of the second as a Rattler miscue with two outs plated
Rodric Black for the 4-2 lead. St. Mary's cut into the lead with their second long ball of the day in the top of the fourth inning as Easton Parrish started off the frame with a solo shot to center to make it 4-3.
The Buffs used the long ball again to add to their lead as Fesperman connected on a solo shot the other way to right field with two outs for the 5-3 lead.
The Rattlers responded again with a solo shot of their own as Parrish lifted his second homer of the game to left center followed later in the frame by a Brendan Concannon two-run double to left. StMU wasn't done yet as a run scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and a Parrish two-run single to right field for the 9-5 lead.
St. Mary's added to their lead in the top of the seventh as Jaxon Daigre lifted a two-run pinch hit long ball to right center for the 11-5 lead.
Max Lankford picked up the loss (4-1) as he allowed six earned runs on nine hits with one walk and four strikeouts in his 5.0 innings of work.
GAME TWO
The Rattlers struck first in the nightcap on a Garrett Brooks two-run homerun to right center for the early 2-0 lead. St. Mary's added to their lead in the top of the second on a Jacob Elizondo two-run blast to right center with no outs followed by another Brooks blast to right.
Fesperman stayed hot at the plate in the home half of the second with a solo shot to leadoff the frame followed later by an
Elijah Batista RBI single to make it 6-2. St. Mary's responded with the long ball again as Elizondo hit a two-run blast to center field for the 8-2 advantage.
The Buffs used the long ball to cut into the lead in the third as Fesperman crushed a two-run shot to left center with two outs to make it 8-4. The Rattlers connected on their fifth long ball of the nightcap in the top of the fourth on a Trrey Guajardo homer to right field with two outs.
WT continued to battle back in the home half of the fifth as Schmidt crushed a two-run homer to right field with no outs to make it 10-8. The Rattlers would add a pair of insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning followed by two more in the seventh.
The Buffs wouldn't go down without a fight as Schmidt singled to left to plate R. Camacho with no outs in the seventh before three straight outs by the Rattlers ended the game, 14-9.
Nathan Scott picked up the loss (3-2) for the Buffs, allowing three earned runs on one hit with four walks and one strikeout in his one inning of work.
