Buffs Make it Nine Straight, Sweep Past Oklahoma Christian

CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes ran their win streak to nine games on Sunday afternoon as they completed the Lone Star Conference weekend sweep of the Oklahoma Christian Eagles, 10-2 at Dobson Field in Edmond, Oklahoma.

The Buffs jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning on a Seth Ochoa two-run single that plated Ryan Camacho and Kory Schmidt followed by a Josh Zapata sac fly to right field that scored Dylan Fesperman for the 3-0 lead.

WT added to their advantage in the top of the second as Elijah Batista reached third on an errant OC throw to start the frame followed by a wild pitch for the 4-0 lead. The Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the frame as Justin Spencer grounded into a double play to score Reed Thomas to make it 4-1.

The Buffs extended their lead in the top of the fifth inning as Schmidt singled to center field to plate Glenn Noronha for the 5-1 lead. The Eagles cut into the lead in the home half of the sixth as Gregory lifted a sac fly to center field to plate Michael Adair to make it 5-2.

WT added some insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning on a Zapata two-run double to the gap in left center with one out followed by a Daniel Castellanos RBI single to right for the 8-2 lead. The Buffs added to their advantage in the ninth as Camacho scored on an errant throw following a stolen base followed by an Ochoa RBI single for the 10-2 lead.

Chase Weaver claimed the win (2-1) for the Buffs, allowing two earned runs on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts in his 5.0 innings of work.

The Buffs return to Wilder Park next weekend for a four-game Lone Star Conference series against the St. Mary's Rattlers starting on Friday afternoon in Canyon.
