#23 Buffs Fall to St. Edward’s in the Series Finale, 12-7

CANYON, Texas – The St. Edward's Hilltoppers plated seven runs in the home half of the third inning on Sunday afternoon to pick up a 12-7 Lone Star Conference victory over the #23 Buffaloes at Lucian-Hamilton Field in Austin, Texas.
 
The Hilltoppers got on the board in the home half of the second inning as Nicholas Anderson doubled to left with no outs to drive in Dylan Tate and Khamani Blakney for the 2-0 lead. St. Edward's would blow the game open in the bottom of the third, sending 12 batters to the plate as they plated nine runs to extend their lead to 9-0.
 
WT would answer in the top of the fourth as Kyle Micklus started the frame with a solo homerun to right field, his second long ball of the weekend, to make it 9-1. 
 
The Buffs cut into the lead in the top of the fifth on a Zac Rackham RBI double to left field that plated Glenn Noronha followed by Ryan Camacho being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Rackham, Dylan Fesperman lifted a sac fly to left to make it 9-5.
 
St. Edward's would add to their lead in the home half of the frame on a Marco Barrera RBI single up the middle to score Trevor Sebek at 10-5. The Buffs would answer in the seventh as Jovan Camacho scored from third on a wild pitch to make it 10-6.
 
The Hilltoppers put the game away in the bottom of the eighth as Blakney lifted a two-run homerun to left field to extend the lead to 12-6, WT cut into the deficit in the eighth on a Camacho sac fly to center that plated Josh Zapata.
 
Alex Chumrau picked up the loss (0-1) on the mound for the Buffs, allowing two earned runs on two hits with two walks and a strikeout in his 1.0 innings of work.
 
The Buffs return to the diamond on Friday afternoon as they make the short drive to Plainview, Texas to take on University of the Southwest with first pitch scheduled for Noon at Wilder Park on the campus of Wayland Baptist University.
