Long Ball Powers the Buffs Past Eastern New Mexico, 13-3

CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes connected on four homeruns on Friday afternoon as they picked up a 13-3 run-rule Lone Star Conference victory over the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds at Wilder Park in Canyon, Texas.
 
The Buffs jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning as Kyle Micklus continued his hot start to the season with a solo homerun to straight away center field for the 1-0 lead. WT added to their lead in the second as Jovan Camacho lifted a sac fly to right center to score twin brother Ryan Camacho followed by a two-run blast by Micklus to right center to make it 4-0.
 
Eastern New Mexico got on the board in the top of the third as Adrien Martin doubled to the wall in left center with two outs to drive in a pair at 4-2. WT added to their lead in the home half of the fourth as J. Camacho doubled to the gap in right center to score R. Camacho for the 5-2 lead.
 
WT used the long ball to add to their lead again in the fifth as Kory Schmidt and Dylan Fesperman went back-to-back to start the frame followed by a Josh Zapata RBI single to score Elijah Batista, R. Camacho would lift a sac fly to left field that plated Zac Rackham followed by a J. Camacho RBI triple. WT wasn't don't yet as an ENMU pitching change was followed by a Micklus RBI single to right and a Fesperman RBI base hit to right center to make it 12-2.
 
The Hounds fended off the run rule in the top of the seventh inning as Jalen Freeman singled up the middle with one out to score Daniel Pruitt to make it 12-3. The Buffs would end the game in the bottom of the frame on a Schmidt RBI single up the middle that plated J. Camacho for the 13-3 win.
 
Matt Milner claimed the win (2-1) for the Buffs, allowing two earned runs on six hits with one walk and nine strikeouts in his 6.0 innings of work.
 
The teams return to the diamond on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Wilder Park.
