#12 Lady Buffs Lock Down the Aggies in LSC Play, 85-48

CANYON, Texas – The #12 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M allowed just 17 first half points on Saturday afternoon as they rolled past the Cameron Aggies, 85-48 in Lone Star Conference action at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.
 
West Texas A&M opened the first quarter with strong defensive pressure, forcing Cameron into seven turnovers while dominating the boards with 14 rebounds. Randi Harding and Taylor Haggan combined for early points in the paint, establishing an initial lead. Kenadee Winfrey sparked momentum with a three-pointer at 6:07, followed by another at 5:01, extending the lead amid Cameron's shooting struggles. WT effectively distributed the ball, recording six assists, and capitalized on second-chance opportunities, scoring five points from offensive rebounds. The team closed the quarter with a solid defensive stand, limiting Cameron to a single field goal. The first quarter ended with the Lady Buffs leading 16-2.
 
WT began the second quarter with a strong defensive effort, capitalizing on an early steal by Abbi Holder. Kyla Kane added crucial points from the free-throw line, extending the lead. Despite a response from Cameron with a three-pointer by Emmary Elizondo, the Lady Buffs maintained control through offensive rebounds and a consistent presence in the paint. Midway through the quarter, Haggan and Henley West contributed key baskets, with Harding providing an assist. The Lady Buffs' defensive rebounding limited Cameron's second-chance opportunities, while Winfrey's free throws and Harding's layup advanced the lead. As the quarter wound down, the Lady Buffs' offensive momentum continued with West and Claire Graham scoring in quick succession. The home team closed the quarter strong, outscoring Cameron 25–15, and concluded with a commanding 39–17 advantage.
 
The Lady Buffs started the third quarter with a strong defensive play as Karley Motschenbacher stole the ball, leading to Harding's fast-break layup. This set the tone for a dominant period, with Graham and Haggan contributing significantly in the paint. The team capitalized on turnovers and quick ball movement, resulting in a 12-point advantage in the paint. As the quarter progressed, the Lady Buffs maintained momentum through effective rebounding and precise shooting. West and Holder added crucial points, extending the lead. Winfrey's free throws at 7:55 extended the lead to 69–35. Chloe Callahan's steal and fastbreak layup at 7:08 further solidified the momentum, pushing the score to 72–35. Zoey McBroom connected on a three-pointer at 4:59, assisted by Callahan, to keep the pressure on Cameron, setting the score at 77–40. Despite a brief scoring push from Cameron, the Lady Buffs' defensive rebounding and bench contributions were pivotal, with Anna Ferrel's tip-in at 00:27 boosting the home team's score to 85. The quarter concluded with West Texas A&M leading 85–48, securing a decisive victory.
 
Winfrey recorded 10 points and posted five assists, contributing significantly to the team's playmaking. Haggan scored 10 points and collected seven rebounds, finishing with a strong performance in the paint. West led all scorers with 13 points, converting 5 of 7 field goals and securing eight rebounds. Harding added nine points, shooting 4 of 7 from the field and dishing out four assists.
 
The Lady Buffs hit the road next weekend as they travel to Richardson, Texas to take on the UT Dallas Comets with tipoff set for 1:00 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.
