Prock Reaches 300 Wins, #12 Lady Buffs Top Oklahoma Christian

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M head coach Josh Prock registered his 300th career victory on Thursday night as the #12 Lady Buffs opened Lone Star Conference action with a 76-51 win over the Oklahoma Christian Eagles at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.
 
West Texas A&M began the first quarter by capitalizing on turnovers, forcing six steals and converting them into six points off turnovers. The team maintained pressure defensively, limiting Oklahoma Christian to 40 percent shooting from the field. Offensively, the Buffs found success in the paint, contributing six points, while their bench added another six points to the tally.
 
The Lady Buffs managed to stay ahead by leveraging free throws, hitting five out of six attempts, which helped them establish a lead. Despite turnover challenges, they closed the quarter with a slight edge, leading 13–10 at the end of the first quarter.
 
WT seized control in the second quarter, capitalizing on turnovers to establish a significant lead. Randi Harding initiated the momentum with a jumper followed by a fastbreak layup, extending the home team's advantage. Karley Motschenbacher and Taylor Haggan added defensive stops, contributing to a 20-rebound effort that dominated the boards.
 
The home team maintained their offensive pressure with contributions from Haggan, who scored a jumper at 1:42, and Kyla Kane, who added crucial free throws late in the quarter. Defensively, the Lady Buffs limited their opponent to just two field goals, closing the quarter with a 31-19 lead over the Lady Eagles.
 
WT began the third quarter with a significant momentum shift, initiated by Harding's 3-pointer, assisted by Haggan, at 9:24. This was followed by a jumper from Haggan, extending the lead. Claire Graham continued the scoring with a 3-pointer at 7:23, increasing the advantage to 39-21.
 
OC responded with a series of points, including a layup and a free throw by Kenzie Willis, trimming the deficit. However, the Lady Buffs maintained their lead through another 3-pointer by Graham at 5:11, assisted by Taytum Bell.
 
The quarter concluded with Harding securing two free throws in the final minute, ensuring the Lady Buffs retained a solid lead. The quarter closed with the home team ahead 51-38, after adding 20 points to Oklahoma Christian's 19 in the third quarter.
 
The Lady Buffs started the fourth quarter strongly, with Henley West scoring a layup and converting a free throw to extend the lead. The home team capitalized on Oklahoma Christian's turnovers and fouls, maintaining control with efficient free throw shooting and key defensive plays by Harding and Kenadee Winfrey. The Lady Buffs' bench contributed 19 points, showcasing depth and resilience.
 
As the quarter progressed, the Lady Buffs continued to widen the gap. Haggan and Brooklyn Scurry added to the scoring with successful jumpers inside the paint, while Chloe Callahan hit a crucial 3-pointer to keep momentum on the home side. The team forced multiple turnovers and capitalized at the free throw line, sealing the victory.
 
West and Presley Kane led a late push, ensuring a comfortable margin by converting opportunities at the line. Despite a couple of late 3-pointers by Oklahoma Christian, the Lady Buffs managed to keep the visitor's scoring in check, finishing the quarter strong with a 25–13 advantage. The game concluded with a decisive 76–51 victory for the Lady Buffs.
 
Harding led the team with 17 points, sinking 5 of 11 shots from the field and converting all six free-throw attempts while also registering two steals. Haggan scored 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting and contributed eight rebounds, alongside two assists and two steals. Motschenbacher collected 11 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end, and added two steals. West blocked three shots and added nine points, making 4 of 7 field goal attempts.
 
The Lady Buffs close out their homestand on Saturday afternoon as they welcome the Cameron Aggies to the First United Bank Center with tipoff set for 1:00 p.m. in Canyon.
